View Full Version : New "Blue label"Gen4 Glock 17's Made in USA
A co-worker just picked up a new "Blue Label" Gen4 G17 for his new duty pistol and gave it to me to set up for him with some new sights, A Vickers slide stop leve and a White Sound HRED. I also swapped out his connector for a factory "-" connector and swapped out the trigger bar for a Gen3 trigger bar.
I was surprised to see the new "USA" stamp on the slide. Hope it works! ;)
Test fire date: 09/28/2012

Looks nice. I am still on the fence as to whether or not I like the Gen 4
I love the gen 4's... I want my next gun to be a USA made 19.
is that a different finish on the slide?

The newer Glocks use a (still functional and therefore fine) duller, more gray finish.

nickdrak, does it have the newer ejector?
Not exactly....
My Gen4 G17 that was test fired on 06/27/2011 had the duller/grey-ish finish that is different from the traditional looking, glossy Tenifer finish that was used up until the Gen4's first hit the market.
My G19 test fired on 10/21/2011 and my G34 tested on 11/02/2011 both have the glossy, more traditional pre-Gen4 Tenifer finish as does this new made in the US Gen4.
The duller/grey finish is more prone to wear in my experience.

Yep #30274
It also has what appears to be a new NO-"dip" extractor.
Greetings nickdrak,
Looks like the right side has a roll mark with the great State of Georgia and it is the first one that I have seen with a "four letter - three digit" serial number.
Thanks for the photos!

I remember Robb Jensen saying that the newer dull gray finish held up better than the old one.

No problem. Yes that is indeed an outline of the state of Georgia. It is on a few locations.
All done....

Cool, I'm looking forward to some range reports on the new USA made guns. I hope they function as flawlessly as the older Gen 3's so I can go back to buying NIB Blue Label Glocks with three mags instead of hunting for good deals on Used ones. FWIW I had a Gen 3 G19 with the new lighter finish and it held up fine.

My USA Made Gen4 G27 has been flawless; range report is below if anyone's interested...

Well.....
We ran the new US made Gen4 G17 thru approx 200rds yesterday. Zero malfunctions and accuracy of the G17 seemed very good.
Ejection was a bit weak/erratic. It would not pass the 1911 extractor test: Load one round into chamber and remove the magazine. Fire the chambered round and check if it gets ejected properly or if it drops down thru the magazine well or stove-pipes. The new US made G17 would stove-pipe and/or drop the fired casing down thru the mag well. I tried it with the stock extractor and SLB and with a Lone Wolf/HRED combo with identical results. But again, during regular live fire with a magazine inserted the pistol functioned 100%.

My Gen4 G17 wont pass the Extractor Test either. I wonder if a Gen3 9mm Extractor would help to clear up the problem. Also you should have your friend try the new Vickers Gen4 extended mag release. I swapped mine out and it feels 100% better than the OEM release.
We also tried a gen3 pre "dip" extractor in his pistol with the same result during the 1911 extractor test. The Lone Wolf extractor in-conjunction with the HRED seemed to have the most consistent ejection pattern so that whats in it now. Im gonna have him order one of the Apex extractors as soon as they become available again.
Im a recent convert to the Gen4 Vickers mag release as well and I installed one in my IDPA dedicated Gen4 G34. They will be going into all of my Gen4 Glocks soon.
"swapped out the trigger bar for a Gen3 trigger bar."
Nick,
Why? What does the Gen 3 do that the Gen 4 does not?
Thanks

They bind less, providing a smoother pull.
