After 6 years of not taking the wife on a vacation, we are headed to the 'Lower 48', kid-less, and headed to Nashville, TN.

We are staying downtown, will have a car, and I'm wondering what the 'must sees' in the area are. Oct 26-Nov1 are our dates.

Currently, plans are to drive to Lynchburg on the 27th for the big World BBQ shindig at the distillery. We've also got tickets that she doesn't know about for the Grand Ol Opry to see a show. Other than that, the schedule is wide open.

Thoughts?

Stop by the Gaylord Opryland while you are there, just so you can say you've seen it. Their steakhouse, Old Hickory, is one of the best places to eat in Nashville.

Behind the Opry Mills mall, there is a paddle boat tour called General Jackson (http://www.generaljackson.com/).

My boss just went and saw Barbara Mandrel's old house, Fontanel, which he thought was interesting.

Some ideas:

- Go get a few drinks and hang out at these places off of Broadway:

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge (http://www.tootsies.net/)

Blue Bird Cafe (http://www.bluebirdcafe.com/)

- Have an early dinner at the Loveless Cafe (http://www.lovelesscafe.com/)

- There are several shows other than the Opry at the Ryman while you're there (depending on your taste in music, everything from Alanis Morrisette to Bonnie Raitt to Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull)

Also, here's a link to the local underground paper:
