View Full Version : New AR15 owner
Thank you everyone who helped my with my decision on my first AR15. I can not thank you enough for all your input and guidance.
Just got a brand new DDM4V7. Now, what do I do with it? ))) I know, I know - training, shoot and have fun.
Before I shoot should I clean the rifle? Is there anything I should before shooting?
Also, can someone recommend a great getting started video and a video on how to clean it properly.
Any other recommendation are always welcome!

Just inspect the bore and lube accordingly before shooting. Check the stickies here for good cleaning info. As for a video, I'm not a big fan of them... especially if you're new to a platform. Watching a vid without a live instructor opens you up to getting into bad habits, whereas a live instructor can critique in real time. Good luck!

The DD comes in a hard case. Can someone recommend a good soft case for AR that is smaller and portable? I have seen some on this forum that carries upper/lower broken down to decrease the case size. I was thinking that it would be practical?
Any thoughts on this?
If so, what can you recommend?
Thank you,
Jake

I don't like using a case unless I have to due to having several long guns. A case that requires me to assemble the weapon is an even bigger lifesuck.
Midway sells a nice soft case that doesn't break the bank

So, brand new, it is not lubed enough?
Nope. Mine wasn't.
What specific type of product do you personally use to lube and clean?

How do you carry it around without a case then? )))

Using "Search" tab located between "New Posts" and "Quick Links". Enter "Lube" in Key Word, select "Titles Only", select AR General Discussion. It spits out this,

You can use this to find out many, many things about the/your AR. :)
I love my DDM4V1. You picked a great brand for your first AR. Don't forget to post a pic on the following thread when you get a second:

Daniel Defense has great customer service. Don't hesitate to contact them if you have any questions.
Congrats. It's never lubed enough.
Hey congrats I just got a V1 in early September, great rifle! Take a class and enjoy it.

I used to live in apartments and didn't want strangers to see me lugging around a rifle case in and out of my apartment, so my perfect solution was a double tennis racket case. They only cost about 30 bucks and have a couple compartments for mags and ammo too.

What a great idea!!!!!! ))
I don't live where I need a case. It gets slung on my back when I head out the door. My DD cheap plastic case has been in storage since I got the rifle.
I lube with sythetic motor oil. Whatever I get from the bottom of the bottle when I change the oil in one of my 20 diesel engines. I get a life time of oil out of just one semi truck oil change.
No pics of my rifle at the moment. It is set up with a B5 Sopmod stock, Ares Amentum sling, IWC QD swivel near the rear of the fore end, Streamlight TRL1 weapon light mounted on one of the removable rail sections mounted as far forward as possible just to the left of the top rail, topped with a Trijicon TR24R 1x4 scope in a Bobro mount.

Most of the wear a gun receives is from over and or incorrect cleaning,,, Keep it lubed.
Nice choice for a first AR!
