This gun came to me from a friend that is a long way from home.

http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy358/SuperiorFirearms/Model%2010/411545790.jpg

It is for his young son and I wanted to do something special for the young man.

I love to bring the old guns back to life this is how it came out I did all the work and then hid it under the finish.

What do you think about it?

Very nice indeed. Can you tell us what modifications were done? What kind of finish is it?

I am a sucker for a nice K frame. I have several. One of my latest acquisition is a model 65 that has cerakote finish.

I did the following

1. Fit by hand
2. Time the gun for cylinder alignment
3. Strip, sand and refinish the grips
4. Chamfer the charge holes
5. Action job
6. Finish with park
7. Re-crown the barrel

That is off the top of my head.

That's beautiful. I gotta say, I love your work Mr. Smith. I have an old 870P Wood) that i'm rebuilding and have been using your "lever love" as inspiration.

Very interesting!

I know I will do a poor job of expressing this, but I always love how you keep the firearms true to their nature, and not turn them into something they are not. As if the orginal engineer had all the time and patience to do so, what would they build? If they had the experience and skill, what could they produce?

Thanks again for taking the time to show us your work. I agree with Ed, I always search for your latest posts.

This!
I love the slight modernization of a classic, without going too far. I think my 870P is taking a trip to KY.

I love the heavy-barrel model 10-8s. That's a perfect upgrade, keeping the serviceability of a classic blaster. Beautiful.

Beautiful work you did on that revolver! That was my first issue service pistol, and what I learned to shoot with. Looking at that makes me want to pick one up. Always enjoyed shooting the Model 10 heavy barrel. :D

I've been looking for a model ten for a while. You did a wonderful job on it.

You made it a much more practical weapon, really impressive work. If for some reason I wanted a revolver instead of an automatic, something like that is what I would carry & have by the night-stand.

Mr. Smith:
I like everything you did to this 10, down to the parkerized finish. Excellent.

Beautiful gun. I've admired your work ever since I saw a Model 60 you'd re-worked sitting on your table at a show in Louisville a year or so ago. In fact, I tried to buy it, but it was a customer's gun for display only.

I really need to bring one of my J-frames to you one of these days.

I'm sure you friend will be well pleased. Very NICELY done. Got to love the old revolvers!

Is there a reason you chose to have the revolver parkerized over having it reblued? if so, why? Did you bead blast the revolver before parkerizing?

Thanks

On these classic revolvers, I'd have insisted on not re-finishing as a holster worn blued wheelie has charm and character than a parkerized finish cannot match. But that's personal preference only offered because the OP specifically asked for the feedback.

I have a soft spot in my heart for K Frame Smith&Wesson revolvers. There is one just like it at the LGS. This makes me want to go wheel and deal for it.

That parkerizing looks pretty cool. Great way to bring some life back and give it a unique look IMO.

Last gun show I picked up one when I was working the table for the club. I didn't let it in past the inspection table.

Ignore the sig250 please... It was a gift from a well meaning family member. It doesn't stay covered in fingerprints either. That picture was literally the day I brought it home.

Your re-done model 10 looks really nice that finish should wear very well.

I sent my AUS Victoria police trade-in model 10 back to S&W for a re-blue and slapped some Altamont grips on it and it turned out fairly well.

It is too bad the current generation of shooters obsessed with plastic fantastic and high capacity do not show enough appreciation for the classics-
A model 10 with appropriate loads is effective stone dead reliable can stay loaded forever without issue, pretty much never needs spring or part replacement for decades and will outshoot for accuracy just about any modern auto.
My own thin barrel 10 ( cost me a whopping $165) will hold a five inch hand held group at 50 yards- no way any glock/sig/hk/x'd can do that

You're correct, they think they have it all figured out in "most" cases. However, with experience they "should" learn to appreciate all of those that came before.....

I love the way the parked finished looks on that model 10. Thumbs up! You'll be on top of my list when I have my 19 gone through. Not trying to hijack the thread but I thought I'd share my old smith although it isnt a model 10. Its a 1971 Model 19-3 that was my grandfathers. Got to love these old S&W wheel guns! Here she is:

Mr. Smith,

I've been admiring your work for awhile. My dad wants to trade me a model 10 today actually. The work youv'e done here is exactly what I'd like do to this one. I had thought about a local shop to do the work but I have not seen any of their work. Could you give me a rough estimate on this pacticular package, you can PM if you would like.

And please keep posting your work, it is one my highlights to look forward too.

What can help them gain more appreciation is seeing how spending time with a revolver can greatly help their overall shooting skill.

Good call in not letting it past the table - vintage wholesomeness right there sir.

Wow, quite a bit better than "fairly well" - I wonder if the Smith employees get excited when something old and worn shows up on which they can work their magic. It appears they did an awesome job. Very nice revolver sir.
