I coworker of mine wants to buy a pistol and has been grilling me lately about where he should start. Problem is, he's one of the cheapest SOB's I know. HK, Sig, Beretta, all too expensive. So I steered him towards a G19 ($500 locally) or M&P 9 ($460 locally).

So he comes back today and asks what I think about Hi-Point:blink: Apparently, $460 for a proven pistol is a little too much.

Anyway, I then thought about the SD series Smith makes. They're under $400, yea? Are they any good? He would probably shoot like 500 rounds a year or something, maybe. Seems like they're a cross between the M&P and Sigma. If it were me, I'd pay the extra $100 for the M&P, but I am just trying to help the guy out.

Any information on the SD, specifically in 9mm?

They are not a bad gun. Trigger are probably the worst part of the gun. Huge improvement over a Hi Point in material. Don't forget a Sig 2022. Has he consider a used gun?

He doesn't know enough about guns to know what to look for in a used gun. I think I am swaying him a little into spending the extra money on the M&P or G19.

For every 1 broke dude, there are 10 LEO Trade-In Glocks.

I also see M&P's locally going for less than $400 used.

Find a quality, used but not abused pistol and you won't have to ask, are Glock 22s any good?
