I'm done with the Marine Corps in 5 months and I'm getting a job with a security company (hopefully) Anyway, I want to get a work gun. Rugged, put a ton of rounds through. I'm not totally sure what I want to get. The 3 I have been look at are a Noveske N4 Light Carbine Basic, Colt 6920 or build a LMT. Can anyone Help me decide?

Going from mortards to security huh. Just kidding, in answer, all 3 will probably work. What kind of security work are you going to, contractor in Iraq?

I'm not an expert, by any means, but from everything I have read and been told, any one of those three would be top-notch. If you go off of "The Chart" then the 6920 is the winner. Personally, if price were irrelevant, I would go with the Noveske.

I would recommend the Colt 6920, not just cause Im a fan of the Colt's. But because it wins hands down against the rest as far as all the top requirements.

The Colt has ALL of what you would ask for in a good duty weapon.

LMT has really nice hardware, and the craftsmanship I would say is better to the eye than Colt.

But the Colt still has the most bang for the buck, and if you're gonna use it for duty use, dont take chances with cosmetics vs. nuts and bolts.

just my .02 cents worth

You might want to check with your prospective employer(s) as to what they allow before spending the $$$.

Just an FYI- If you are talking about security work in Iraq you are not allowed to use your own weapons. Usually one can make slight changes, add a light, different stock, etc...In my company no modifications can be made w/o first getting approval of the Country Manager and the armorer (me).

On DoS contracts mods are not allowed at all and you are subject to termination for doing so. It has happened. There are some other contracts like DoD/ ACOE that have a little less oversight and depending upon the leadership they may close their eyes.

Another thing to consider is this. Sending certain items through the mail to overseas locations regardless of affiliation may be in violation of ITAR/ DDTC rules. Though this is often overlooked, if it was enforced one could be prosecuted.

I would inquire as to what you will be using and try and determine what you think you may need and go from there.

The trick of course is to work for a US gov't contract that allows you to be a river pirate...

Kevin,

I am jealous. I wish I could carry around an M79. Unfortunately, I am limited to my G17, BM M4gery, and side folding AK.

All excellent choices. Of the three, the Noveske N4 has the best barrel (most accurate as well).

A little off topic, but what made you switch from your Glock 19 to a 1911, and did your company have a problem with it?

Cody,

I have a Noveske 16.1 Recon Upper and it's a nice gun. I don't think that you would go wrong with Noveske.
