Well I had to buy ammo sooner than later and today while at Wal-Mart I found what I thought was a good deal. Federal 223 55gr. FMJ ....BP223BL 34.97 +tax, bought the last 2 boxes they had. Is this a good deal? I thought it was, all the other 223 they had was over 9.00 per 20rds. I'm guessing the Federal will give decent performance. I would have bought another 100rds if it were avail. but for now this will tide me over. So is this a decent value? What should a person expect to pay for 223 FMJ??

I would say yes considering.

After sales tax that would be about $.37 per round (depending on taxes of course) for brass case .223...that is an acceptable price.

You can order a 1,000 round case of PMC Bronze .223 for $380 shipped (in stock), currently in stock, which is about the same price BUT you have buy the full case to get that price, vs only buying 100 of this Federal AE.

That makes the Federal AE a good buy.

Glad I bought it! I don't know just how much the bug has bitten me but at least I have some ammo to throw downrange now. And I have a better idea of just what it costs for ammo. The plus is I now know what a decent price is so I can use caution when offered a deal.;)

my local Wally world has the federal 223 for 39.99 when in stock, so I'd say yes.

My Walmart sells them for $37.99, so I'd say you got a deal. I just started loading my own so I won't be buying anymore.

That's painful... but it is the current market.

Same box is 34.97 at my local Wallyworld.

I pass by there once a week on my way to class and pick up a box each time whenever they're in stock.

Local Wal Mart around here keep them for $34.97. The guy that works there said that there were 2 other guys and me were the only ones who ever bought them which is good for me. He said that the locals around here would rather buy the AE 50gr Varmint TIp that sell for $10.97 for 20 than any thing else they have in 223/5.56. WHile I was standing there to talking to him some faded camo commando with a huge beer gut came in and bought 15 boxes of the Varmit Tip stuff when they had all kinds of the value packs and even a couple of the 420 rd cans. I asked him about his selection and he said this was the same ammo he used back when he was a Seal in Desert Storm:no:
