As part of my inspection brand spaking new LE6940P (I've got DI rifles just wanted to try something else) I find a completely unstaked gas key. Because it's piston, Colt doesn't stake it?

I guess a pic would help but that will have to come later tonight.

Thanks!

Since there is no hot gas being piped into the bolt carrier they can use Loctite to hold the screws. Heat will melt or degrade Loctite.

If anyone is curious and doesnt want to read 10 pages of eventual shenanigans........it's an interesting and I guess somewhat "controversial" set up compared to a 1 piece carrier....

According to Colt.

"the key is no longer screw in via the hex screw ala the standard carrier, the screws you see are merely a cover for what is a pressure fit pin underneath to keep the key from shearing off the carrier body."

Press fit pins that can with stand 400+lbs of pressure.

Yes, after reading thru about 40% of the thread with the childish pitter-patter, I found what I was looking for and SURE don't want to restart THAT discussion. IF there are any other good threads on the 6940P I'd appreciate knowing about them. Thanks

You should post some pics. It's one of the few things that does not seem to be done from third party sources such as yourself.
