Removed the light, boonie packer, and replaced the grip with an MOE +. Then traded out the aimpoint micro for an XPS 2-0.
I also traded out the regualr pmags for some of the windowed variety.

out of curiosity, why did you trade out the Aimpoint Micro for the Eotech? What do you use this rifle for? If HD/SD, why did you remove the light? Just trying to get an understanding for why you decided to make these changes.
Dont get me wrong I loved the aimpoint. I wanted to try the eotech and its mainly on the rifle as a "stand in".
The flashlight was removed because I am so longer using this as strictly home defense. Its a secondary for that purpose.
I wanted to go light, uncluttered.....
I FINALLY was able to trade the Eotech for a Comp series aimpoint. I love the flip covers. This one is a comp m2 with a LaRue tactical M68 LT150 mount.
As it sets now:

I'm still after the lightest/simplest setup. I'm planning some stippling so keep an eye out. I'll post updates.
Nice and clean, I'm looking to do a simple build like this for a light entry gun in the future.

Thanks!!
The only thing I may add is a light. What I disliked most about my last light and mount was it snagging. It stuck out. Then the shadow from the barrel. There is a solution I've considered known as the Mossie Tactics 12 o'clock light mount.
Nice rifle! I really like the Thorntail light mount, it was exactly what I was looking for. I can grip my rifle as far up as I like, and the light is out of the way, but I can still activate it. You should look at that one, if you have not already.
There is no shadow, the light is even with FH, so carbon does build up on it. That may be a stupid place to have it for munvering inside buildings, but it works fine when moving through my house, yeah I do that , and I do not go around kicking down doors and clear rooms.
I would add a rear flip sight. Something that will work with the aimpoint in place.
The thorntail would work better for a rail.
The mossy tactical one utilizes the FSB as a mount. Keeps the rifes low profile.

http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-13.jpg
On top of that I can use the same light as I would my pistol. Just switch it back and forth.
Keep in mind that after a few rounds that FSB gets hot if you don't have gloves. I've burned burned myself at a comp. when hand slid up and used the FSB as a hand stop, same could happen when reaching for that light.
My first run at stippling. I find it time consuming to say the least, but I really like the grip I get from it. Now off to do some pmags!!

http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-14.jpg
I wanted to try a couple patterns on my pmags to see how they worked:

Thanks! You'll find it takes patience and is a painstaking process. The benefit of extra grip makes it worth it in the end.

I did think about this, but I always wear gloves and the switch will be on the side of the light. From most reviews I've read the issue is non existent.
A few changes, upgrades, and personal touches on the way.
Things that I'm keeping:
1). Noveske N4 upper

Yes. Yes it does

But you have to ask yourself- Do I turn the light on after I shoot the badguy, or before?
Looking forward to the pics boss.
I can't wait to see how it either haha

Going to take a wild stab at this and say BEFORE.
Part of my "upgrades" was to rid myself of the magpul pit. So I'm trying some different brands. This is one thing I'm glad I got my hands on. A VLTOR EMOD. I haven't even had a chance to put it on the rifle yet, and already like it better than the CTR.
With this photo we see a sneak peak of things to come
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps5373d354.jpg
IMO, magpul grips are just too hard to beat, so I ended up with a MIAD. I plan on playing around with the different pieces as I go.

A while to say the least......lol. Got to love the grip though!:D
I've thrown a base coat down on the upper and lower receiver.

What knd of paint did you use?
Jumped on a deal for some GI style mags. Going to be running these with magpul followers and ranger plates.

Aervoe Military Flat
Nice. I'll be watching to see how it comes out.
I didn't much care for the slot mount from IWC for the MOE handguard. I wanted something that was more flush, and neat. So, I found this neat little guy from IWC:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps3bbde99c.jpg
The QD fits very snug in a .5" hole, just need to drill it:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps1d622307.jpg
Then insert the QD and apply the supplied snap ring:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps0faeaf22.jpg
After that, there are set screws that hold the position of the mount from the back side:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps319baa19.jpg
Overall it's a very solid mount and I hope it serves me well.

RMiller,
You probably got gouged by whomever you received those USGI mags from didn't you? ;)
Just a wild guess but those are Brownells mags with a manufacturing date of 12/10 right?!

What a great guess!
Ran into an issue with the magpul followers and brownells mags. The tan follower and spring are different than a regular black or green follower GI mag. The spring is wider.
Soooo.... I'll just stick with the tan followers till I happen across some ss GI mag springs or just save the followers for GI mags. The tan followers don't seem that bad and are actually close to the magpul followers in their anti-tilt abilities.
Interesting....did not know that.
I may have to tear down one of my Brownells and NHMTG mags when I get home.
-Jax
Magazines numbered and ready for rotation!

Laid some paint today, I laid a couple coats over my urban tan base coat with the field drab and hiland brown using a bit of net to break up the colors. TRIED some green and didn't like it, soooo.... I ventured down to the local hardware store and grabbed a rustoleum brown, and did it do the truck! I LIKE IT......A LOT.

The lower is only waiting on a castle nut for the receiver extension.
Absolutely love that paint bud.
Thats gonna look really cool when it gets some wear and tear on it.

Extension nut came in sooner than expected.
And this is the result!

Looking sharp! I like the camo job.
That looks great man. I like the colors you used
Thanks guys! Now all I need to do is find some ammo and shoot the crap out of it!
That's one sick paint job!
Badass paint job!
Good luck on the ammo man. I'm on the lookout too but I'm not paying $1 a round for xm193.
Can't wait for this crap to calm down!
Looking into a reloading deal that has all the equip, bullets, brass, powder, and primers. That MAY fix the ammo situation for me.....
I appreciate the feedback.
Found a few left over boxes of .233 Hornady. 55g. The little shop I frequent may have a couple more boxes for me Friday, maybe enough to get me to the range.
For those who have pondered what colors were used on my build:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps4d50c5a9.jpg
That's AERVOE Field Drab, AERVOE Highland (brown), and Rust-oleum Earth Brown.
God bless gun shows!!
Was able to pick up 60rds of winchester green tip M855 and 240 rds of M193 ball in bandoliers on stripper clips. Average price was .70, a little on the high side, but better than the .80 to $2.00 a rd some vendors were trying to get!!!
Not to mention the ridiculous price on any AR mags or AR15 and AK47's. Found a few decently priced AK mags and ammo..... Only making the argument a little stronger for adding an AK to the collection.

Nice paint job, I really need to paint some of mine, black just screams "clash"!
Feeling the red dot made me a little too lazy.
I decided to force myself to use the irons and sent the Comp M2 down the road. Eventually I'll pick up a comp M4 or maybe even a T1.
But for now, Rockin the carry handle! :D

Can't believe I read the whole thing and the final result is great, start to finish an outstanding job, Thanks for sharing
Nice read, thanks for sharing boss.
Is the paint you used anything special, I noticed the rustoleum brown, was the other paint the same type and does anyone know if the spray paints will adhere to dura coat?
Thanks, I've ordered a couple of your choices
Thanks again for the compliments everyone.
I would add a rear flip sight. Something that will work with the aimpoint in place.
I would add a fixed rear sight...
Alright. I think I've found a setup that's winning. I know some are not huge fans of EOTech's here, but I'm digging the new transverse battery compartment.
Everything was added to either enhance my shooting or to just make it more user friendly. I see how that small 1moa dot helps with longer shots.
Upgrades include:
-EOTech EXPS 2
-DD A1.5 Fixed Rear BUIS
-VLTOR A5 System with green Springco spring
-Surefire X300 light
-Daniel Defense Mid cutout Rail
-Changed back over to a Battlecomp 1.0

I don't know, the break up of camo and black is growing on me.
Nice evolution of the carbine. Now paint that rail!!!:jester:
Agree w/docsherm bud. Must paint rail. :)
Interesting watching the evo of your rifle.
-Jax
Maybe one day I'll get the itch to paint it.
It's been a process, trying to pick what works for me. Everybody is different. I think I finally found a combination that is fitting me.
However I'm leaning towards switching out the magpul grip for a BCM gunfighter. I find my wrist feels strained after alot of shooting, so I'm hoping the different angle of BCM's Mod 1 will solve this.
Agree w/docsherm bud. Must paint rail. :)

-Jax
Fitted the gunfighter to the rifle and its simply amazing.
Crazy how the change in angle helps with trigger control and single handed manipulation.
Uh oh....
I have one of those 14" Centurion CMR rails coming my way. The built in QD mounts and simple install sold me.
I'm throwing a Daniel Defense front sight on it.
I'm also taking the opportunity to upgrade my trigger. Sold the QMS and have a Giessele G2S on the way.
I'm also hunting for an A5H1 buffer. Seeing as my A5H3 seems to be causing issues when combined with the fast burning/weak Tula powder.
Since my DD originally came with an FSB, it needs to loose a little "height" before the CMR goes on. The most practical thing to do was shave the FSB. The other option was to buy another barrel with a pinned lo-pro. Too much money to basically acheive the same thing. My first time, but I think it turned out well.
First things first, get rid of the bulk:
http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s424/Rmillerm4/image-34_zps6c910583.jpg
Next is ridding the FSB of the sling mount and bayonet lug:

After some rough shaping:

That looks really good!
Thanks!
I almost forgot, I will have a VLTOR MUR-1 to take place of my Noveske N4 upper.
That did turn out pretty good, what tools did you use?
Cutoff wheel and grinder wheel. Then moved on to a straight file, followed by a couple of finer files, finishing up with different grits of sand paper. Turned out alot better than I imagined it would.

how do you like the vltor A5 system compared to your previous set up , guessing heavy buffer and carbine spring. Are u from Ct., if so where do you get your equipment locally? fyi, I noticed "Seymour Ct." on your lower.
Nope, I'm here in IL for now. The lower was made in CT.
As for the A5, I love it. Makes the most difference with 5.56.
.223 just feels like you're shooting a really loud .22LR.

I've not tried painting yet, but you have me seriously thinking about it now. Awesome job!!
