This is a video of my ten year old son running the M&P9FS at the range this week:

So simple a child can do it.

He handled that gun better than 90% of adults I've seen at the firing ranges. Congratulations on raising and teaching your son. The gun ain't too bad either :)

Man, whenever I see something like this all I can think is: "I wish my dad was cool."

It's the same thing I think when I see somebody at the range shooting their inherited Colt Python, or World War II issue 1911.

Good on you for spending time with your son teaching him the shooting heritage.

I can't wait until I get my daughter behind a handgun! Good on you!

I was thinking the same thing, sometimes you feel like you are risking your life by going to the range. Just last year my daughter and I were at the range and I had a laser sweep across my chest. Your son is a good shot, keep up the great work. He could be the next Dave Sevigny.

Your son shoots well! I had my son shooting a friend's S&W M&P15-22 this Spring when he had just turned five years old. He liked it! My Browning Buckmark was a bit too much for him but the rifle was fine.
My friend's four year old daughter was like an old pro on the .22 rifle and the pistol (along with his sightly older daughters).

I have some fond memories of shooting Dad's Hi Standard .22 pistol the first time when I was about ten years old. He gave me a Hi Standard .22 semi-auto rifle on my fourteenth birthday. That was an awesome present! I recall that Mom wasn't so thrilled...

Thanks for the comments guys. He has been shooting rifles and shotguns for years, but this is only his third time shooting pistols. He really loves the steel targets.

Haha i've thought the same thing... My dad hated guns which is probably one of the reasons I like them so much.

Great shooting! And a fun looking range...

I have to buy my evil roy's and haul them out to the desert. Not fun!

My most vivid memories of my father are the first time he took me shooting and the last time we went shooting before he died of cancer. You're making memories that will last your son a lifetime and building skills that may help him have a longer life. He shoots well!

The range is pretty incredible. It is about a two hour drive for me but worth it.

Took the words right out of my mouth...I didin't shoot a sidearm until joining the USN back in 1977! Its both humbling, and encouraging, to see a ten year old lad demonstrate such fine marksmanship...
