Hey everyone,

So I had a 308 Surefire brake and did not like it at all, there was no reduction in recoil - anyone have any suggestions for a solid brake that actually will reduce felt recoil?

I was looking at the RD, Bennie Cooley, and Badger Thruster.

I use this one:

It does, in my opinion, an excellent job of doing what you asked...reduce recoil.

Downside: Louder than my mother in law.

I guess there's always a trade off.

I like the Battlecomp BACB I have mounted on my Para FAL

I've also tried the Belgian combo device which helps cut down on recoil. The BACB works even better

Reduce recoil = dress it like a tank:

SJC TITAN in 308 does pretty well in our opinion.

I've always heard a lot of good about the FSC30.

I recall some of the SMEs around here (M4Guru, I think) also saying that the PRI MSTN QC brake and Holland QD brakes were on his short list.

im interested to see a side by side of all these brakes, it seems as though the tri-ports are alot more effective with the 308 platform

The Z-Comp is available in .30 Cal - shooting a AR-10 with one on it makes it feel like a 5.56 gun...

Here's that side-by comparison you asked for...

AAC 51T. Although...the people to your left and right won't be fans of your brake.

I tried the Battlecomp BABC, the Damage Industries $20 muzzle brake and the JP Bennie Cooley muzzle brake. For $20 the Damage Industries brake does a decent job, about 20 percent reduction IMO. But I finally decided on the JP Bennie Cooley brake. It reduces felt recoil by about 30 to 40 percent IMO. Your results may be different as felt recoil is a very personal opinion. The JP brake also helps keep the muzzle rise down. The best one for muzzle control was the Battlecomp, but it didn't do much to control recoil IMO. But the JP won't win you any friends at the range, it's LOUD. But it works very well.

My personal favorite muzzle brake for my AR-10 is the PWS PRC brake. MUCH reduction in muzzle flip and felt recoil by comparison to many others.

Warning.. it's not quiet :)

I run an SJC Titan and it works really well. Downside is the blast to anyone shooting next to me...

Muzzle blast.

I have a Badger thruster on a GAP-10 build and it controls recoil and muzzle bounce very well.

Here's one more vote for the Battle Comp BABC. I've have one mounted on my POF P308 Recon for two years now. It was a big improvement over the factory comp, and helps get me back on target faster without annoying shooters on line with me. There was also a noticeable reduction in muzzle blast over the factory comp, but since I live in NJ were flash suppressors are verboten, it was simply an added beny from a well designed compensator.

Google Ross Schuler. He makes brakes out of carbon and stainless steel. He charges $45.00 for his basic brake, and will customize it to your desired thread count. The are also available in a variety of diameters. He has a pretty big following on snipers hide.

The SJC Titan is the best pure muzzle brake I've ever used on a .308. I put one on an LMT MWS and it cut the recoil down by about 60ish%. highly recommended.

The OP never mentioned what Rifle this was going on.

I recently got a Seekins Precision ATC. Initial impressions are that there seems to be much less muzzle blast than some other brakes. Little muzzle rise so easy to stay on target. So far so good.

I use the JP compensator brake, Bennie Cooley on my LMT Mws 308.
It helps but a little but loud. It comes with a crush washer or you can buy an optional jam nut. Its really funny, as when you get it in the
package JP also includes some ear plugs, probably for the guys shooting next to you. I had to laugh.
