I'm in Central New Yorkistan. . . . .NOT the New Yorkistan City area. Beleive it or not, NYS laws aren't as bad as the NYC area laws are.

I'd like to buy a new Colt AR6720 Lightweight Carbine (would be my 1st choice) or maybe even one of their LE6920 Carbines, either a LE6920, LE6920MP-B or LE6920SOCOM Carbine. I like the LE6940 but would rather have a permanently fixed A2 front sight. I saw some of their new 2013 models, I'd like to see all of them before I'm ready to buy.

However, I need it to be "post-ban" compliant. Can a FFL order a new "pre-ban" carbine setup for me and then change it to a "post-ban" configuration? I need it to have a collapsible stock that's pinned or and most likely I'd just put a A2 stock on it, the bayonet lug needs to be removed, and the flash hider needs to be either removed or replaced with a permanently affixed muzzle brake or thread protector that makes the barrel at least 16 inches long. I don't need new magazines as I have a bunch of "pre-ban" USGI aluminum 30 rd. magazines.

Does anyone know if this can be done or if there are any large distributors/smiths that will make one "post-ban" compliant for me? Or will Colt make one "post-ban" compliant for me. I know they make California compliant models. However, I don't need the magazine setup that they need. If not, is their any way I could build my own "post-ban" compliant upper? I'd prefer to buy a complete carbine or at least a complete upper either factory made or made by a smith if possible.

I appreciate the help, NYH1. ;)

ADCO can do those mods for you

G&R has bcm lowers in stock right now with the magpul a2 stock which would remove one factor from the equation.

If you have to have a perm attached muzzle brake you might consider doing a 14.5 instead of a 16" barrel, they can be ordered with the comp already perm-attached from various vendors, doing it this way would mean you are only sending the upper out to have the bayonet lug removed. That way you only have to pay one ffl transfer rather than two (to the smith and then to your local ffl) if you were having a complete rifle modded.

Get a Colt Match Target 6400- it's essentially the ban compliant version of the 6920.

I have NY. compliant rifles in different forms, permanently attached brakes, target crowns and thread protecters. I have had better luck building lowers, pinning the stock myself, and then buying complete uppers. You can send and receive "non-compliant" uppers through the mail in NY. FYI it's illeagal to have one in the same place as a lower though. I buy the upper I want and ship it right away to Adco, they know the laws and have a fast turn around time.

This may be a stupid question. . . . .but here go's. Will a new Colt AR6720 complete upper fit on any lower?

Thanks, NYH1.

Depending in where you are in central NYS, you could give Keith a call at Top Notch Firearms in Canandaigua. He can get any rifle you want and modify it in house. He does great work and has reasonable prices.

He's a deputy sheriff and CERT guy too.
