I was doing a little rearranging this evening and took stock of muzzle brakes. I’ve been making these since the early 80’s and updated the design in 2010. Both work very well but I have not really pushed them in the last ten years due to my AR15 base of interest shifting away from competition; these things have no place on a duty or defensive gun. I don’t believe they are any worse than any others in terms of blast but—they just ain’t the thing for more critical applications.

Both new (Type II) and old style (Type I) are USPSA and ACTS legal (last I checked). They are 1” diameter and under 3” long.

I found that I have a few that are what you might call blems or demos. And that I have several Type II’s ready to go and a whole bunch of them machined but not yet finished. This tells me I have not given them enough exposure and that they are over-priced at $90 on my site.

As of now, Type II’s are $60—they come with instructions, a peel washer, and a 5” length of oak dowel rod as an installation tool. Put it through the front port and tighten. This gives enough leverage to get it on tight enough without the danger of overdoing it. Finish is Parkerized; material, heat-treated 4130.

As to the blems and demos:
L-R:
1 and 2 are Type II. These two have each been mounted and had about 20 rounds through them. $40 each.

3 and 4, Type I. One has a starter hole for blind pinning and a second dimple for a second pin if desired <sold>. I don’t remember why I did this but it is still fine for a no-pin application if you don’t mind the hole. The one with the starter hole, $35 <sold>, the other one, $40.

5. Type I, left-hand. The dif is, the right-handers have a small window on the left and a large window on the right side to counteract the body rotating right—the lefty has them reversed. It works but is really not missed on the Type II, which is ported the same on both sides... $40

Here's an older post about these with a couple good photos of the Type II. The link showing it being shot seems to have expired.
