I am new to AR15s and need some advice. I am going to order a complete
16in upper from LMT, and wanted to find out if I should spring for the enhanced
bolt and carrier, is it worth the extra money? thanks

In my opinion it's not worth the expense. MAybe it it was full auto rifle that I was taking into combat.

That extra money is better but into things like:
Mags
Ammo
Other accosseries

. . .enhanced
bolt and carrier, is it worth the extra money?

There has been no indication that these items deliver performance increase in proportion to their price, apparently its somewhere in the area of "none/much".

There have been many attempts to smooth out carbine DI systems, from "pig-tail" gas tubes to "enhanced" bolt carrier groups. The only one that really seems to work is changing to a mid-length gas system.

Then again, the standard carbine system is not an issue with most users, as they know what problems to anticipate and how to keep the gun properly maintained, through advice easily found on these forums.

ETA- I get all excited every time I hear about something new that's supposed to cure my ills, but they never really do much. I remain optimistic, but try to remain objective on all "enhancements" that come down the line.

No. Get the stock LMT BCG and you'll be good to go. Good pick for a first gun.

+1

Words of wisdom here. Take heed.

You can also take that extra money and get a decent weapon light like a Pentagon light, or a >$100 Surefire light & mount.
