Painting a shotgun via "Book of Pat" method

Has anyone tried this? I assume it would work fine, provided I take off the action bars and taped off the inside of the receiver.

I just wonder due to the fact that I live in a dry climate and already have surface rust on my 870 tactical after one week of owning it. I like his method as I have used it on my SBR and it is easy to touch-up if needed.

I've done this on 2 590A1's one with duracoat the other krylon. I disassembled the shotguns and just painted the barrel and receiver. I stripped oil with brakekleen, masked off the barrel extension and chamber and sprayed away. The krylon adhered to the parkerized surface very well.

Both were sold in favor of a lighter 500 so no pics.
