Fortunately, he did not get caught in a compromising position. Instead, he is leaving to become the President of the Heritage Foundation.

For those who are not familiar with the US Senator from SC, he is widely considered to be the conservative kingmaker in the Senate. Rubio, Paul, and many other Tea Party-leaning senators owe their nominations to the guy.

I'm thinkin' the GOP leadership made it clear to DeMint that his options in the U.S. Senate were slim and none, after his strong endorsements of multiple Tea Party conservative candidates virtually killed any chance the republicans had to take the senate.

I seriously don't believe any bullarchy about the Republicans taking the Senate. Those dipshits couldn't take candy from a quadriplegic baby much less seats from the Democrats.

IMO the Republicans wish to clean conservative house and become the not so left leaning party. It's obvious that only those willing to cow down to the give me generation have a political future, so that's where the Republicrats are going to go.

And for that reason I will miss him.

I care little for any "establishment" and if the GOP were doing their job there wouldn't even be a Tea Party. Perhaps the GOP should stop giving up candidates that are in conflict with the views of your "typical" conservative.

Senators aret particularly dependent on the party, so I doubt he was forced out. His politics aren't popular at the moment so it a good time to leave. He can literally make a bigger difference elsewhere.

He was interviewed today.

RUSH: Well, I think it's safe to say Boehner is not forcing either of you guys out, right?

FEULNER: That's pretty true. (laughing)

DEMINT: It might work a little bit the other way, Rush. (laughing)

The GOP establishment is currently engaged in an orgy of purges. They're pissed that their attempt to suppress "rogue" elements of the party weren't successful pre-election and they want to ensure there's no dissention in the ranks as they move forward.

That the direction they choose to move forward in is completely stupid and foolish is irrelevant.

The Republican Party is a stupid, bloated, ball-less, pompous, pathetic, hind-tit-sucking shadow of its former self.

Not everyone wants to stay on the Titanic as it goes under.

I don't know about that, the congress is controlled by a party whose brand is completely trashed. They are going to be looking hard at what just took place, they are going to conclude that they need to move left to secure their seats, if thats the case, and I feel reasonablly confident that it is, they are going to give Obama everything he wants in an attempt at appearing bipartisan.

Everything will be in play, folks are about to be delivered a hard lesson on political pragmatism, those republicans under the leadership of John Bohner are going to lurch solidly to left of center.

After all, elections have consequences....

As I prognosticated to perfection, in the immediate aftermath of the staking of Americas heart this last November...

Doc Glockster youre 100% correct.
Ive never seen in my life so much complete, utter incompetence.
BUFOONS, they are. I ****in loathe them MORE than the Demorats.
NEVER EVER EVER will I vote for them, or even vote period.
There is ONLY ONE WAY, ONE WAY, to EVER, MAYBE, get rid of the libs & socialists...FOREVER. And that is as follows.
FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS, CONGRESS RUBBER STAMPS EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY THING THAT OBAMA AND THE DEMS PUT FORWARD, WITHOUT DEBATE OR DELAY. Literally give them 100%
of what they want, the second they propose it. Tell the American public this is what we are gonna do. and at the end of the day...EIGHT ****IN YEARS INTO IT, we will see whose philosophies & ideas work, and whose dont. With NO resistence, they absolutely will not have a scapegoat or anyone at all to blame when the country falls, as it will. Then, and only then, if its still possible and we arent past the point of no return, people MIGHT, and I doubt it still, but might, see the light and realize who and whats to blame.
I hold NO hope for america's citizens, or america itself. It is DONE. OVER. FIN. ADIOS & GOODBYE. Argue all you want. Im right, and thats ALL there is to it.

My sentiments exactly. The only hope (slim at that) is when the economy gets so bad that even government checks are in doubt then maybe some people will wake up and realize that the "government giveth and the government taketh away." After the riots in the streets and confiscation of nearly all private property fails to stem the tide of collapse, then maybe people will start scratching their heads as to why the Soviet system failed.

Unfortunately, I ain't got most of a century to wait. I get to watch the destruction. Someone else will get to watch the rebuilding.

Just as I predicted....the GOP is going further left and even going so far as to purge conservatives off committees in the House. DeMint can't do anything in the Senate anytime soon...so why stay if you think you can do more from a different position? The Democrats have a healthy majority there and McConnel is the minority leader...another GOP establishment big government type.

I get a kick out of the religious right thinking the Republican Party belongs to them, since 35 years ago they were all Democrats.

I suspect that DeMint recognizes the lack of effective conservative leadership in Congress, and sees this move as a means to fill the power vacuum in the GOP. In other words, he wants to be seen as the titular head of the GOP - a title that many liberals currently bestow on Rush Limbaugh.

I expect that he will be far more visible than the current Heritage Foundation President. He may even consider a run for the GOP nomination in 2016.

I think the canary just died.

I agree with the above comments regarding the debasement of the Republican party and DeMint recognizing there isn't much support in Congress or among the American voters for fiscal responsibility. So why go on pretending that Congress will do anything useful. Why not ail and get on with life in private industry where he might have some positive impact.

Our country has really thrown up its hands on anything to do with the economy and fiscal responsibility. All we can think to do at this point is do what we did to get into this mess, but do it faster and more of it. Few even want to acknowledge the abyss before us let alone talk about the hard decisions and suffering that a true course correction requires.

This ship is going down, there is no action palatable to the public which can save us. Any action that is taken will be so miniscule relative to the problem it will be rendered insignificant. The good guys might as well bail out and find greener pastures and leave behind the rascals who worked to get us here and are driving us over the precipice so they can take full credit.

If you were a politician and you saw Obama get re-elected, wouldn't that pretty well disillusion you with the sanity of the American voters? Who would want to represent that pack of self-destruction nincompoops (them being us in general)?!

This is spot on but....I don't see the GOP having the smarts or the balls to think that far outside the box.

As a South Carolinian, I am sorry to see DeMint go.
He has represented this state and this country well.
