This story should drive home the fact that there are evil people in this world and vigilance in mandatory. It will reinforce it to those of us that recognize this fact, but it might get it through to some of the less aware.

I have been watching Paul Howe's new video on the Combat Mindset, and this is a cold reminder.

Yesterday I was disgusted when Casey Reynolds (morning talk radio host) said that if she had a gun it wouldn't have been a game changer. Bullshit.

We also need to have the will to survive. The mindset that I am going to do whatever it takes to escape and not be a helpless victim.

In the article it says she was able to run from her captor at one point but he caught her and told her that if she did it again he would shoot her. I guess she still believed that he would not do unspeakable things to her. :(

We watched the video and we had a candid discussion about what should have been done in this case. We can all armchair quarterback this tragedy, but we can also learn from it. I need to do some more research and probably get that Howe video. It's my opinion (right or wrong) you should fight and scream for all you are worth. Being armed and trained should be the first line of defense. It's a damn shame in this country that my daughter can join the military at 18 but can carry concealed in this state until she's 21.

That right there.

Nobody takes you to a secluded spot to "rob" you. If all they want are your things they are going to take them now and go.

If they are taking YOU someplace, it is because something is going to happen to YOU. And that something probably won't be good.

I'd rather be shot now in a very public place with forensic evidence all over the place and no opportunity to scrub the crime scene.

I've known for far too long that there are some truly broken people out there. I still remember the Danny Rolling murders in Gainsville, Ted Bundy and the BTK sicko.

Bad enough to get killed by some sick ****er. Only thing worse is being 100% under their control at some remote location where they can do what they want, when the want and for as long as they want to and then kill you.

If you need any more evidence of 'evil' amongst humanity, surf Google for that wonderful video of the Mexican drug cartel beheading the guy from a rival cartel with a chainsaw, and then his compadre with a hunting knife.

We all know there's evil out there that wants to prey on others.

The key is to not live in fear. To not let your vigilance turn into paranoia. To take reasonable precautions, but to also continue to enjoy life.

What drug dealers and bangers do to each other is not my concern so long as they keep it in house.

Good for her and good on you dad for introducing her to such notions. I re-read them myself from time to time and have had my wife read them all. I still need to add to my reading list the books mentioned in those SME threads. Talk about sitting at the foot of the master.
