I sold my Ruger 10/22 Mag single extractor to fund my EBO Sar 3 purchase. Can anyone recommend a good 22mag auto loader, other than the expensive Ruger.
I'm not sure what category this post should go in, hunting ,disaster prep or where it is.

CZ 512, It's known to be one of the only reliable 22mag semiauto rifles. Though it isn't exactly cheap at $435.00.

If you don't mind tube-fed, I can highly recommend the Marlin Model 60. Mine has been totally reliable and more accurate than I am.

There are also speed loaders for the tube:

Edited: My bad - I missed the mag part. Sorry for my non responsive post.

How does a 22 magnum fit into SHTF plans? What use do you have in mind?

Except for High Standard Derringers I have never had a 22 mag. You might get me thinking......

I have wanted a Sako interchangable barrel 22 / 22 mag / 17 for some time and haven't taken the plunge especially as the plunge will cost damn near $2K. You could buy a CZ in each caliber and have money left over. Thanks for getting me thinking......

A 22 mag can effectively harvest large game, deer, bear and small game out to 200yards. Also the 22mag would be more potent round to use against hostiles. The ammo is just slightly heavier than 22lr ammo, but triple the price. It would be no weight issue humping 500 rounds of 22mag in a BOB as compared to 5.56. Also 200 yard effective head shots can be done with ease. There is much small game you can harvest with the 22mag,without destroying as much meat as compared to 5.56.
Does anyone have a Ruger 96/22 magnum, it seems like good all around rifle for about $370.00

I have to highly disagree with this. I knew a man, now long departed who as a boy during the depression killed deer with a 22. He got close, as close as he could even if it took days. You can kill game, people too if necessary with a 22 but bullet placement has to be perfect which means a close shot.

Ok, a broadside lung shot on a whitetail, ten inch circle, is pretty easy to do at two hundred yards. At a hundred yards a 40 grain 22 mag shots very flat. I'm trying to balance all factors by choosing a between lightweight centerfire and ultra lightweight rimfire round.

Congrats on the Greek Sar-3. My personal favorite for a 308 semi-auto. Stock up on those $3 factory mags!

I wouldn't rely on a .22mag as a SHTF rimfire. There won't be any ammo for it and current ammo is relatively expensive (compared to .22lr) while only being marginally more effective. Better to stick with .22lr which you can stock up on for relatively cheap, and when you need something more move up to 5.56/223.

A nice accessory to your SAR-3 would be an HK G3 22LR conversion kit. They run about $500 & consist of a drop in barrel sleeve, bolt assy, & modified magazines. You can switch your SAR to 22LR in about a minute.

Ok, a broadside lung shot.......

A lung shot will not cause a quick kill. The 22 magnum lacks the penetration to punch through a shoulder. Probably lacks the penetration to punch through a rib at 200 yards. The wisdom of the ages is available. In three words: "use enough gun".
