Does anyone make a 10 round mag for ARs? If I do any hunting with mine I need a 10 round mag. I really don't want to make one from a 20 round but of course I will if I have to.

^yes.

If You're into pmags, they make a blocking insert that reduces the 20 rounds to 5.

Lancer L5 AWM 10 rounder. Transparent or solid black. Excellent stuff for hunting. Around $15. for the solid, about $2. more for the transparent.

From what I've been reading I thought magpul has discontinued them.

Magpul will soon begin production of 10 round PMAGs. I read this in an email from them. I don't think this is in regards to a potential ban, just catering to the hunting crowd for state conservation rules.

Converting a twenty round gi mag to a ten rounder is as simple as removing the baseplate an inserting a small block of wood or for pmags go here- http://www.magazineblocks.com/magento/

From what I've been reading I thought magpul has discontinued them.

I just bought limiters for the 20'round PMags for my AR. We are limited to 6 rounds in VT for anything but .22's.

Know your local laws. It is 6 in VT but I'm really at 5 too because that us what I can find. In .22 you could hunt with a 100 round drum. No cans in VT either or shooting from boats, vehicles aircraft. I was jealous of Iraq Ninja hog hunting from a helo with a can.

Any pics of the pmag 10rd mags?

I've got a 5rd (metal) for when bench clearance is an issue, and it's got a big plastic chunk on the bottom so you can grab it out of the mag well.

We have no restrictions here for hunting, but I like using the little one for load development as well.

Not sure they're out yet. I have the limiters for use in the standard 20 round PMag. I have one inbound from another member. I will post photos when it shows up.

I've been using the AR STONER 10 rounders for hunting/bench. They are well made from stainless steel and stick down about 1/2". Regards

I sometimes hunt in Colorado for coyotes and prairie dogs. Colorado limits you during big game season to:
1. CENTERFIRE RIFLES
***
c. If semiautomatic, they can hold a maximum of six rounds in the magazine and chamber combined.

I was told by DOW that it's okay to hunt the coyotes and prairie dogs with the 30-round mags as long as you're not hunting during big game season. Don't know if that makes perfect sense but I understand where they're coming from. So, I try to avoid hunting there for those species during big game season. I live in another state.

are you just wanting to hunt with a 10 round mag, or is their a mag capacity limit in your state?

there is no magazine limit for hunting in the great state of Arkansas.

Midway is saying june for the 10round M3s.

Fortunately, deer season here in MO allows for 11 rounds between the chamber and mag so I'm think of these:

Anyone have experience?

If not mistaken, in certain states if your on your private prop. there is no round limit on mags. Provided you live in a free state.

It can also depend on the game. My best recommendation is to always check with your State's Dept. of Conservation.

I thought 5 rd mags were the max for hunting...

Like others have said laws vary from state to state. Here in Alaska there is no limit other than for federal regs on water foul.

Hold on just a second, according to my illustrious leader, Governor Cuomo here in NY, "No one needs ten rounds to kill a deer".

So, because he decrees it, I feel that no one in the U.S. should be using anything other than a bolt-action rifle for anything including hunting or self defense.

Sorry, but the great and high governor says so, so it must be so.

Wait, forgot "Shotgun" Joe Biden and he says we should all be using shotguns, so forget the bolt-action rifle thing.

No, no wait, Barack "the trapshooter" wants us to only shoot clay stuff.

Now I'm confused again...What was the question?

Finally got my 10 round P-Mags. Should be getting 2 a day for three more days. I am getting used to the order restrictions at Midway. I pick up a hat or some $3-$5 replacement parts for misc. stuff so I can justify shipping. They have been in stock for about a week now. I refused to pay $25-$30 apiece on Ebay.
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/765895/magpul-pmag-m3-magazine-ar-15-223-remington-10-round-black

Still waiting on the -5 limiters. Hope I can get them before the season. I see them on Ebay for $10 a pop, not happening. I have zero reliable 5 round mags every one I've owned has failed me at some point.

Grant, G&R Tactical, had some 10rd Pmags last week. Picked some up. AIM surplus had minus 5, 3 to a pack, and free shipping. I'm set.

Edit to Update:
G&R looks like they still have 10rd Pmags in stock:

AIM looks like they still have Minus 5's in as well.

Alternatively, anyone know of good 5 round AR-15 magazines?

I'm not sure on the reliability with the limiter but my standard 10 rd pmags have been flawless thus far.

I hate that the -5 limiter doesn't allow me to use the dust cover or load the magazine on a closed bolt, when mag is loaded to 5 rounds. I ground the limiter down with a file to even with the top of the Magpul symbol on the side of the limiter to solve the problem. Other than that the limiter is fine I've had no problems whatsoever.

Haven't put a bunch through them, but we tested 3 of them with no issues.

Save for the dust cover/seat on closed bolt as already noted. Its still a pmag. I'm just surprised Magpul didn't leave the room for a dust cover or closed bolt. Doesn't jive with their normal mode of operation.

We did that because there are plenty of states that will fine you if that magazine will take the 6th round, and in our standard clearance, you can force the extra round in. A clever guy could see where to remove some material to allow both dust cover and closed bolt seating, but doing so voids the limiter warranty.

It was not a big deal to file the limiter down. How the hell did you force in another round without breaking the thing? I couldn't force the dust cover on or compress the thing an 1/8th of an inch.

Oh yea 10 round mags and limiters on sale now @ Midway.

Ditto. No way in hell would I be able to get anything else in. Not even close. I don't think I can get a 1/16th of a gap between cartridge and lips when pressing on that last round.

They work great and they certainly adhere to restriction. I'm thrilled to have a quality 5/10 option. But no way, no how, is that 6th even dreaming about getting in.
