If you were going to get a Tavor in the USA, legally....which one?

I am thinking brown.
I am thinking full length rail.
I am not sure about the barrel length.

I'm thinking an 18 inch barrel if at all available. Shouldn't be too long to handle considering the bull pup design.

I'm hoping for an fde w/16.5" barrel next year. Save those pennies..

Positives and negatives please.

The difference is 1.5 inches.

I got one :D

But I already want another one! I'd love a FDE with a full top rail and a 15" SBR barrel installed. Hell, maybe a 5.45 conversion kit too.

I'd love a 18" fde model but unfortunately they are only offering a black 16" in the LH factory configuration.

Buy a replacement barrel! Between Canada and IWI US's substantial aftermarket support I'm sure you'll be able to find something!

Viper237, it is my understanding that all you need to make the rifle left handed is a new bolt, I could be wrong though.

Is it possible to fire the gun in right-hand configuration, using a left hand hold, without getting wacked by brass or gas?

My plan is to get the 16.5" blk model. It looks like it will be a bit shorter than the 12.5" SBR I have in the works, and look forward to comparing the two. I have a little game going to see which I get first, my stamp or my TAVOR.

Is it possible?!? Oh yeah it is!

And yes. A lefthanded bolt is all you need for conversion :D

TV-PressPass, thanks for the video! I thought I read that it is not an issue if one wanted, or in my case will need, to run that way.

You have some great country to go shooting in! I am quite envious.

Wow that was much better than I was expecting.

I know all you need is a LH bolt but thats more $ out of pocket. Of course if I was lookin for resale value having a RH bolt may not be a bad idea.

Thanks guys :D I had a great time shooting that one.

I like having a military and a civilian bolt. Given the option I'd buy a left handed bolt too just for the extra flexibility.

Was it this thread where someone was discussing changing the charging handle but leaving the bolt? I'm tempted to try that to keep the charging handle operation the same mechanic as my Vz58, and to improve light placement . . . we'll see when I get my Tavor back from the shop.

Where did you pre-order it from? I've been pining over one of these for close to 2 years now. If they do become domestically available next year I will definitely be purchasing one.

If I had known that pre-orders were being accepted a week ago, I would have done it then.

The 18" one.

It will be the most collectable and worth the most money should a ban come.

Is there a firm date for the release or is it still sometime in the first quarter?

I too have been debating putting in a pre-order, but don't want to get on a list to only be pushed out further and further.

Feb/March they should be hitting retail stores. According to Copes and Mr. Kassner.

What is the color on that Tavor? It sure doesn't look FDE, and it's not black. Is that one special prototype?

TV-PressPass
01-08-13, 12:15
Thats a custom paint-job I had done in a colour known as "woodland tan." It's a little muddier than foliage green and I'm a big fan of it!

Does anyone know what the actual retail price of the Tavor is likely to be?

TV-PressPass
01-10-13, 12:18
General consensus is somewhere between $1500 and $2000. MSRP is $1999 for the regular units (http://tar21.com/IWI-tavor-tar21-rifle-iwi-us-civilian-carbines/) and $2599 for the IDF model with optics.

Some guys have been pre-ordering at the $1700 mark, and I know the guys doing the group buy through bullpup forum paid less than that. But that was before all the craziness. The first units on shelves could be much higher unfortunately.

TurretGunner
01-10-13, 17:23
Copes dist preorder was 1900. I really hope they arent screwing everyone when others are in the 1700 ballpark

01-10-13, 17:50
as you have mentioned before re pmags supply and demand. If you are on the waiting list for copes feel free to drop out and put your money down on one of the other sites for less. Right now with what is going on in DC it is even money if anyone other then the few on the beginning of the list will see a gun. Some of the parts are imported I believe although the gun is assembled here. An executive order may be enough to stop the parts from coming in. I would not be surprised if that does not happen and the gun is as good as we expect that you will see it above msrp.

Asides from Cope's, where else is taking pre-orders? I've heard of other places listing them for sale, but not actually taking orders.
