View Full Version : Test firing my new bolt.

Is ten rounds sufficient in test firing a new bolt? It is a BCM and is brand new, I compared it to my current bolt, and the one that came with my new BCG which will be used as a spare, or for a new rifle, and the bolt is still solid black, no markings, so it has not been fired- I think.

It is the single bolt, not the carrier group. Like I said, it looks brand new, and does not show handling marks consistent with those quality control procedures.

Pop it in the gun. Shoot a few hundred rounds. Take it out. Clean it off. Put it back in the parts stash. If you don't believe the factory tested the bolt thoroughly, go test it yourself. Way more fun than posting here :D

Yeah, I will bring it with me tomorrow when I go shooting. Everything made by man is subject to failure, so I guess it cant hurt to find out. I just wonder how many rounds BCM puts through their carrier groups before they are shipped.

They do not claim to test fire bolts on their page.

For what its worth, my spare BCM bolts have all had the brass marks on the breech face indicating they were test fired.

Mine has also shown brass marks on the bolt face after I received it from BCM.

I don't test fire my spares, because I'm weird and OCD about everything having the same round counts.

The bolt in question.

That is a horrible picture and nobody can see anything of value. Use a real camera and get back to us.

Okay thanks cause I can see it, probably cause I know what is to be seen. But I still think you can see how it looks perfect, no brass markings.

I don't know of anybody painting bolts... ;)

Run it for a few hundred rounds. If it functions fine, keep it as a spare.

You are right, I should sleep I cannot think. I meant brass marks from firing.

Again, your picture is hard to see.

You are overthinking a relatively simple thing here.
