I have had a mental picture of this rifle in my head for several weeks. I was not sure it would work out because I was afraid it would be too heavy. My goal was to find the balance between a light rifle and a very controllable rifle. I am not completely finished with this rifle as I have not decided on a light a muzzle device or an optic. I do have a suppressor (Mini4) but I do not plan on using a suppressor on this rifle.
I am up for suggestions.
Right now as it sits, it is well balanced and not heavy at all.

Here are the specs:

Upper:
Vltor MUR-1 upper receiver
Daniel Defense light weight (.625) 16 inch CHF mid length barrel
Geissele 13 inch SMR Mk1 rail in sand
BCM Bolt carrier group
BCM Mod4 charging handle
Daniel Defense gas block
Daniel Defense A1.5 front and rear sights
A2 flash hider (place holder)

Lower:
The lower is a Noveske lower that I have had for years. I sold the upper in June to fund my television in my living room. I always liked the finish of this lower.
Vltor A5 receiver extension
Vltor iMod stock
Noveske QD end plate
Lower parts kit from G&R Tactical
Geissele Super Dynamic 3 Gun trigger
Magpul Miad grip
Battle Arms Development CASS 3p 45 degree selector

Here are the pics:

Liking it. Did you choose the 13" over the 15" SMR for the weight? I love the looks of it but have heard its a bit beefy. I remember you saying that you're on a MUR kick right now, I have a similar build in mind, but with using a standard upper and then SBRing my Noveske with the FFL and MUR. I love my Noveske but think it'll make a better SBR while a 16" or 14.5" middy with lightweight barrel and standard receivers would be best for that size.

Thank you.
When choosing the 13 over the 15, I decided that I was going to most likely do a flashlight at 12 O'clock. I wanted the muzzle to extend beyond the bell of the light to keep the blast away from the lens. The 15 also made the rifle look more like a 3 gun rifle, not that it matters.
I am definitely on a Vltor kick right now. I really don't know if the cost outweighs the added performance of the MUR over the forged upper but the lines on the front of the MUR match up with the Geissele rail perfectly.

The Meat Heads here said the Geissele rail didn't bring anything to the table and it's too heavy.

But that sucker is nice, boys!

Your build looks fantastic! Congratulations.

How does the Geissele Mk1 feel in hand? I have read on this sight that the extra machining gives it a rounded feel. Can you compare the feel of it to any other rail system (IE: Troy, Noveske NSR, DD, Centurion, etc..) ?

The rail just fits right in your hand. No matter how you hold the rifle, be it traditional, beer can etc. it just feels natural. My opinion is that this rail is not in the same category as the Troy Alpha, Noveske NSR or Sampson EVO. This rail is a tough durable rail like the DD Lite rail and the Centurion C4. The difference is that it is modular like the Troy, NSR and the EVO. I guess you can consider this a hybred.

As far as the comp, I have narrowed it down to an AAC Blackout flash hider or the BCM. I do not think this rifle will actually need a break and I don't know if I will ever find the need to suppress it. I have suppressor adapters on all my rifles but only really use the can on two of them.
I did not pin the gas block. I am glad that I did not. I do not like the DD clamp style gas block and I am going to switch it out to a set screw style gas block and dimple the barrel.

Agreed. The Geissele is a cut above.

Its refreshing to see something nice like this that wasn't just slapped together. The Geissele rail is nice, it can be a beast depending on what other parts you combine with it. In this case a lightweight barrel helps to offset that weight. J also like the added touch of the Vltor MUR.

Very nice looking rifle.

How do you like the finger bump on the MIAD? I tried using the MIAD on my rifle with that same frontstrap as well and it wasn't long before I decided it had to go.

Figures we would build damn near the same rifle considering we've shared quite a number of the same opinions over the years on here.

MUR-1A
SMR MK1 13"
DD 14.5" LW mid length CHF
DD lopro GB
BCM F/A BCG w/ BCM standard CH
KAC micro irons

SR15 IWS lower w/ sopmod
SD-3G trigger
BAD-ASS ST
MOE +

If I told you how great of a job you did on that build, or how wonderful it turned out......I'd be essentially bragging ;)

That said, outstanding job brother...your gonna love that MK1 on there.

I was really nervous about adding the MUR. I really wanted to use it but I can truly say that if I built it and it was too heavy, it was coming off. I am a big fan of the MUR. It is a badge of quality on a rifle.

The bump never bothered me. I do not like the MOE grip but I think it has more to do with the width than the lack of the bump. I do like the tango down and that has no bump. I really like the feel of the BCM but I can't work the safety selector as well so I took it off.

Thanks Trident. I really thought about a 14.5 mid. The reasons I didn't go with it were several. I already have a rifle with a 14.5 lw mid, I have still not decided on a flash hider and gas port questions are issues with the 14.5 and I didn't know about the DD ports. I have a BCM 14.5.

Depending on the barrel size of your SBR, I think the rail will balance the weight out. I have built some SBRs that were too light to run effectively. If I shoot my SBR I want to take it out and rip on it. I want it to be accurate and effective too.

Gotcha, thanks. I'm sure I'll ask about the specifics on here or PM you if you don't mind when I get to that stage, but I'm forcing myself to spend the money elsewhere for a bit. Either way, enjoy it and keep us updated.

An X300u or the enforce WML are the choices. I'm not big on the battle comp. not that the battle comp isn't a great product, I just don't like the way it feels like its dipping.

I don't have a scale but I'd really like to find out how much it does weigh.

I hopped on the WML wagon a little while ago but have since transitioned to X300s after cracking the screw housing by over-tightening the thumb screw.

That's good to know. I have only seen the WML once in person when I shot one of Hackathorn's rifles this summer. I never used the light but it was light enough to not notice it on the gun.

Thanks for the info. I obtained a BCM low profile gas block. I will be taking the DD off and replacing it with the BCM. I can get a better stake on the BCM and I will also dimple the barrel where the bolts go. I have decided on the X300u and am leaning toward the BCM comp.

I decided to remove the Daniel Defense gas block and add a BCM gas block. I always build my rifles with reliability first on the list of necessity. The clamp style gas block was not my cup of tea.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/E543AF49-6518-4705-9217-75CFCAFCE6D0-2833-000000F838A89FA4.jpg

After removing the DD gas block, I installed the BCM gas block and made sure it was set correctly. I then tightened the set screws and made sure that they put a mark in the barrel.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/D652007E-9DCA-4D2F-92FA-5AE11B107FFD-2833-000000F827AC01F1.jpg

I then used a punch to make a detent in the center of the two marks in the barrel and used a drill to dimple the barrel. After I finished drilling, I cleaned the area with some MPro7 and put a touch of Super Black in the dimples.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/C887086C-BBA7-460B-AC74-9DFD7AFE7214-2833-000000F82B231640.jpg

I then put the gas block back on the barrel and made sure it was square. With one set screw in, I put red thread locker on the other screw and let it dry a bit. I then installed that set screw and removed the second one and put red thread locker on that one and installed that one after the thread locker dried.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/8EEE2604-3B80-4FC6-9207-A80E3F8EC79A-2833-000000F82E29D287.jpg

I then took my super trusty staking tool and BFH and put 4 stakes in the threads of the gas block.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/465310AD-F009-4B81-A9EA-37EA3BEDAE37-2833-000000F83157F14A.jpg

I then installed the gas tube and retaining pin.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/1EE529F7-0EDB-4661-BD7B-61A7C74409F5-2833-000000F834908962.jpg

And although I will never see it again, I now have the super cool awesome BCM logo shining out the front of my gas block.

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/AR-15%20Accessories/36935E2D-0E06-4776-89FE-599E42FAA890-2833-000000F824607619.jpg

I added the Surefire X300 Ultra at 12 O'clock and here it sits at 7 pounds and 6 ounces....

I received the BCM Mod 0 comp today and installed it. The comp just screams quality of craftsmanship. Very well done, BCM! I was super careful installing the comp. Lots of blue tape! I snapped a few pics of the rifle in its new condition. I gave decided on the Aimpoint Micro T-1 2MOA on a Daniel Defense mount. Although I am a big fan of the ADM mounts, I want to keep it as light as I can.

Thanks Rekkr.

I took it out and shot several types of ammo. I ended up using the -3 A5 buffer. It locked back on Wolf ammo so I am satisfied that it will run with most ammo.
I sighted the irons in at 50 with 55gr 5.56 and it was 3 clicks right of mechanical zero. The best way I can describe this rifle is solid. The gun just shoots like its on a rail.
The BCM comp exceeded my expectations. There is slight up and left pull like the A2 but its very mild. It shot super flat. I was expecting much more lift. I like it better than the Battlecomp but its not as flat as the Breakout.
Here is a video of the rifle with the A5 -3 buffer....

http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/Videos/th_3545FEF9-EEE5-426D-8355-455B3408C0CE-11093-000005704462D026_zpsf43fdd3e.jpg (http://s1014.photobucket.com/albums/af269/CoryCop25/Videos/?action=view&current=3545FEF9-EEE5-426D-8355-455B3408C0CE-11093-000005704462D026_zpsf43fdd3e.mp4)

Thanks guys!

A little update here....

My neighbor bought my Burris XTR 1-4x24 so as payment, he ordered me a 2 MOA micro H-1 with DD mount from G&R Tactical. I placed the scope closer to the rear sight because I generally do not run a rifle with a fixed rear and it seems, to me, that I can get on the sights and scope faster with two eyes open with this set up. This rifle has turned out to be a bit of a tack driver. I have another rifle with a light weight barrel and it just doesn't have the accuracy that this one has.
This rifle took three 3 shot groups to dial in and I fired a 10 shot group to confirm (50 yds) and all 10 rounds were touching.

I also took a sling swivel mount from a Magpul ACS stock and put it in one of the threaded holes in the Geissele rail. The threaded metal broke off and did not hold the swivel. I then took a flat nut and put the swivel in one of the slots and it holds quite well. It also acts as a bit of a handstop.
This rifle is 100% complete unless some kind of sling swivel that I like better comes along.
