View Full Version : Colt Police Positive Project
I thought maybe someone would think this is interesting.
Picked up this basket case at the fun show.
The frame is currently in an electrolysis tank.

Wow! Do you think you can actually get all that rust off?
I am really curious. If there is a lot of surface pitting, what do you plan to do? Is there a coating you want to try?
I love me some old Colt wheelguns, I have two in the safe right now.
Good luck with your project. Be sure and update us with the photos, as it comes along.

Due to the pitting I'm not too sure. I was thinking maybe a dark grey bake on like Brownells? I am also thinking of bead blasting it since there is no remaining finish or real value to it.
The lock up is on the loose side. Numrich was sold out of the ejector/ratchet so until I find something it may just be a wall hanger.

very cool
Where is a good place to get one rebuilt? I have one my Grandfather gave that I would love to get back into shooting condition.
The best colt guy out there, IMHO is Grant Cunningham:

Thanks! I will keep him in mind, although 2 year wait is a mighty long time.
SxPxDx,
I admire the project you have taken on.
Are you going to continue to post updates? I would love to track this project!
Good Luck, I hope you pull it off.
I've been waiting two years just to get on Grant's waiting list!
Shoot him an email, tell him what you want/need and he can probably direct you to someone that can do it.
Cylinder & Slide is always a good option and doesn't usually have a huge wait.
Hamilton Bowen would be another great choice.
Fury, great project! Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Really all that needs to be done is to have it nickel plated. The internals seem to be in good working order and the cylinder timing is still pretty good. I remember Turnball Restorations or something like that from way back. I'll probably do some before and after but I don't have the time or skill to do it all myself.
