OK, I have narrowed down my search to these two fine weapons. They both feel good in my hand. One day I want the Sig and the next the HK. Which would you get and why? Thanks for much for your help.

I like the H&K better, and I have been using Sigs since the mid 1990s. My favorite Sig has always been the W. German P228 9mm, and I still love the gun. I currently use it on duty, and I have used just about every flavor and caliber of Sig on duty at some point. However, the first time I got to shoot a P30 V3 9mm, I went ahead and shot a timed course of fire. I shot that course of fire just as good as my Sigs, and after I had warmed up to the P30 I shot better overall. The P30 grip adds considerable more stabilization to the pistol over the Sigs, even though the DA trigger is a little longer. From a bench rest, the P30 is also more accurate. Add other perks such as more corrosion resistance, ambi controls, and a lighter, more balanced pistol and I would put the P30 ahead of the Sigs any day of the week.

Ive had both. Overall i prefer the P30. The P229 has a smoother, lighter trigger pull and if you get one with the SRT, it will have a very short reset as well. So the Sig wins in the trigger dept. imo. But the P30 is lighter and if you go by most reports, it will made with much better quality control before it gets to your hands. Heckler & Koch and the P30 have a stellar reputation for quality, durability and reliability. P30 all the way for me.

Thanks. Great input. Keep it coming!!!

Both good, I prefer the HK slightly. The left grip panel on the P229 has a pronounced hump at the top that bothers/annoys me. I prefer the HK P2000 to either (slightly).

I would get the P30 now along with any extra P30 mags you may want.
I suspect that if HK comes out with a striker fired P30 type pistol at SHOT 2013 it will probably take the P30 mags. As of today P30 9mm mags are priced at $34 and up.

I'm issued a P229R (A .40 S&W DAK) and have a personally owned P30 w/the "v6" LEM trigger. The P229 only comes out of my safe twice a year for mandatory qualification, otherwise I'm carrying an HK.

The P229 will conceal better, because the grip is noticeably shorter than the P30's, and has a lot more options WRT night sights and holsters. In my hand, the P229 feels "dead" - not exhibiting the balance and "pointability" of the slightly lighter P228 that I love dearly. The P30 is A LOT lighter, and offers more capacity. My P229 (and many of those issued to other guys I know) doesn't show the kind of tack-driving accuracy that my P30 does.

For my money, however, the more accurate comparison is the P229 to the P2000. My P2000, even though it has a shorter barrel and sight radius, gives even better accuracy than my P30, and is a breeze to conceal.

Kevin

I shot a P30 the other day at a range, excellent pistol in every way.

I like both, but I'd pick the P30 for quality control, and weight reasons alone.

If only the presidential election had gone this way in favor of the other candidate:(:(:( HK in a shut out so far. Damn, now I just need to find one at a good price.

I like the P30, never owned one, but have shot one 3 or 4 times. I actually would prefer the p2000 or a USPc if I was going with an HK.

However, the p229 in .40 is my HD weapon and is among the 2 pistols that I shoot the most. It's what I shoot best and has always been 100% reliable, functioning exactly how I expect it to. You will find many here who believe that they QC at Sig has gone downhill. I think mine was made in 05 or 06.

As for performance, I can control the recoil pretty well and mine has a nice, smooth trigger pull. I don't have the SRT, but wish would like to check one out one day. I stippled the factory grips and absolutely love it.

I like my 229 but have never shot that model hk

Sigs have a history of being excellent. I question their recent quest to create a different model for any conceivable situation. I have also never really enjoyed the sig ergonomics and vastly prefer the HK ergonomics. I would take the HK between these two. I own a P30 and it is truly a great pistol.

I have both.

My P229 is a SA/DA model in .40 cal. The P30 is a V3 SA/DA, with decock in 9mm.

The 229 has a better trigger. I got used to the looong trigger trigger pull on the P30 after awhile, but the LEM trigger option sounds like the way to go.

The P30 is much lighter, but the 229 is slightly more concealable.

Ergonomics on the HK beats the hell out of the Sig.

My Sig came with night sights. The HK should come with better sights for the price, IMO.

I have plenty of handgun carry options,(Glocks, Sigs, S&W, SA), but if I'm not carrying my TRP, I'll have the P30 with me.

The HK is going to be a much higher quality weapon if you're buying new. Get the P30.

I just held the thing at a gun store and I was sold. I just bought one. Why is it that I set out to buy a handgun for about $500 and ended up spending about $923? Oh well, that is my typical pattern with all my toys, including guns. Thanks guys!!!

Congrats, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Yeah, it seems to be really tough to reason with yourself when it comes to firearms purchases and women. We want what we want.... So don't put it right in front of us and expect us to act within reason. :D

I would pick the P30 for HK quality and reliability. Make sure you try the LEM trigger before buying. I found the LEM trigger user friendly after a little practice.

Congrats!! I almost picked one up myself after the election. It is definitely on my short list to have.

So, when are you gonna post pics?:D

I will post some nice pics when I get it. We'll strip her down Hustler style so you can see all of her internals:D:D

If its a new Sig run the other way and get the HK. Personally I would get a Glock 19 over either.

At one point I had both. I definitely liked P30 better for 2 main reasons:

Ergonomics are probably one of the best on the modern pistol. It just fits perfectly in the hand. It is highly adjustable to most hands. I could never find a comfortable grip for my SIG. I went through several. My last grip before I sold it was Hogue. Still not very comfortable.

Second reason is bore height. It is much higher than I like. Sig is taller and narrower than many other pistols. I did not like that at all.

Great choice on the P30 OP. Now you need to get some spare mags for it :)

I would buy 2 of striker fired P30s the day they hit the US.. This is a gun I have been dreaming about HK to make.

Like pretty much everybody says, both are great pistols---I went with the P30S 9mm (ambi-safeties, DA/SA)---I really like this gun and along with my P2000 (also 9mm, DA/SA) are two of my all-time favorite pistols. I've owned and fired most everything and IMO, these are some of the best!

Love my P229. Just installed a new set of night sights on it. I've had it for five years now an it has been a solid gun.

I have an older P229 and the newer bastardized 228/29 M11-A1 for Sig and the P30. The HK shoots smoother and I like the trigger better. The short reset in the new m11 is nice, but overall I still shoot the HK better. Someone earlier in the post said it but I would get the P2000 over both. I have a P2000 in 9mm both full size and the sk. The shoot great and the SK conceals well. If you dont mind the larger caliber and smaller mag I love the 45c. Its small and very accurate.

I just got a P30 (V3) in 9mm. I like it. A lot.

I used to have a P229R and it was boringly accurate and reliable. Grip was just too chunky. I sold it.

I missed the 229 so I decided to check out the new E2 model. The grip felt much, much better than the slick, bulky one on my last 229.

I bought it on a whim. When I get some time maybe I'll do a comparison on the two. The particular pistol I purchased has the SRT (short reset trigger). We'll see about that.

The p229 ,hands down in my book.
had the p30(2 of them), and even with a trigger job this gun just didn't do for me. the sig, otoh, is more ergonmic , sily-accurate and reliable.
