Good afternoon men;
I just picked up an AR yesterday, it is a Bushmaster XM15-E2S M4 225/5.56... I was up to their website and read that "while the chamber is made for 5.56, do not use because there is to much pressure in the chamber". Now I'm confused. is there a difference between 223 and 5.56??... Or are they talking 5.56 NATO??... Yeppers, I'm just a goofy Ol' Fart, in need of a "Block of Instruction". Back-in th'-Day...I was issued an M-14, but that was when I had more hair on my head. Is there a special round that I have to fire through this AR. Hell...I paid pretty close to a Grand for this thing, is it only a "Pop Gun".
Thanks for any advice fellas, I need to sharpen up my Brain Housing Group.

You're fine. There is a difference between .223 and 5.56 in the case shoulder area. Your Bushmaster can shoot either one safely. The compatibility issue is mostly for traditional/hunting rifles chambered for .223 only.

You essentially do have a "pop gun". 5.56 is mil spec with a higher chamber pressure rating than .223 which is commercial. If your barrel says .223 do not shoot 5.56 through it. You can find tons of info on this topic by using the search feature.

Good luck.
