Burlington VT is fairly nice place (as freezing your nads off in the winter kinda places go...) but I can't say any of those locations would be where I'd want to live. Your mileage may vary.

Here...I'm a transplant myself but most of the people I know since we moved here are also recent transplants. Austin TX area. We've had huge growth, and they are building a HUGE apartment complex less than a mile from me. Hundreds of units...buildings 5 stories tall.

I was actually born in Midland, Texas; which is on your list. It's pretty much a feast or famine place. When the oil industry is doing well, people eat. When it's not, you don't eat.

I can remember taking a few saltine crackers to school for lunch, and being happy to have them.

I do like the city, and the people are friendly. But anybody that lives there saves their money, for the inevitable rainy day.
