Seems to be giving light primer strikes. Tried several different mags, and different ammo. Same deal. Will fire some rounds, some it won't. You just get a click. Primers are dented, but not much. It's been cleaned several times.

The gun is a Armalite AR-10 A2 upper, with heavy stainless barrel.

Ideas ? It belongs to my uncle, so I don't have it in front of me now.

Clean the firing pin channel in the bolt.

Make sure your lube is cold weather compatible.

Failing that, a new hammer spring.

Failing that, a new firing pin.

Thank you, I'll try it when I go back over there.

Make sure that the hammer spring is installed correctly. The legs of the spring should be on top of the trigger pin. Some times people pull the hammer and trigger out for cleaning and put then in incorrectly.

Don't these AR-10's also have a firing pin spring? I know the AR-10 (T) that are in the armory have them.

I am also wondering if there is a chamber/ headspace issue. I would ensure that everything is clean, correctly assembled and that you use ammo that is known to work. If it continues I would probably replace the hammer spring first. Couldn't hurt to have someone check the headspace.

I will try the things that have been suggested here. If they don't work, it will probably take a trip to see gotm4.

One leg of the hammer spring has been clipped off. Wheres the best place to get a new one ? Are the AR15 and AR10 springs the same ?

Brownells is always good to go. Their stuff gets here quick. Pretty sure that if you replace it, you will be good to go.

You should be able to use an AR15 hammer spring. I have a single stage ArmaLite AR10 trigger group if you'd like to give it a go.

Let me know.

Thanks. He ordered a complete spring set from Armalite for $16 I think he said. Wants to replace all the springs now.

I appreciate you guys telling me where to look. Can't believe I didn't think about someone doing a hillbilly trigger job on it.
