View Full Version : Noveske questions

Noveske rifles are on my short list for my first AR. I have a few questions while I am waiting for Mr. Noveske to return from a trip.

First, teach me about his stainless barrels used in his rifles, their rifling and overall performance. One post I read said they were chrome lined (which I doubt). I have found a lot of information about the "hammer forged" N4 barrels but not the stainless. If I can figure out how to afford one, the Recon is on my list.

Second, what trigger groups are used and are there any options on the trigger groups used in his rifles or the N4? I do not want a "combat trigger" for my intended use which will include some limited varmint control nor do I expect to get a match trigger. MOA and hopefully sub-MOA accuracy is important to me and a good trigger is essential. One early reviews of the N4 said they were "heavy and not the smoothest" (Weapon Evolution). Are the trigger groups different between the rifles and the N4?

Third, I have not found any reviews of his rifles (added to clarify, not the N4 but the rifle series). Any help?

I have done some extensive reading and have not found enough information about these questions. Thank you for any help and have a great day.

I believe that someone somewhere did have a run made up of the stainless barrels with chrome-lining. Might have been giffman but can't remember for sure.

The Noveske stainless barrels are NOT chrome lined. Generally speaking, my understanding is that stainless barrels are slightly more accurate than chrome lined barrels, however, the chrome barrels are easier to clean and last longer than stainless barrels, and the Noveske N4 barrels are extremely accurate chrome lined barrels. The Noveske stainless barrels are highly sought after barrels because of the quality and accuracy of the product.

Regarding the trigger, I can speak about the trigger group on the N4 and I expect that he uses the same trigger groups in all of the Noveske rifle lowers...they are combat triggers. I replaced mine with the Geissele Hi Speed Trigger and I am very happy with it.

The quality of the Noveske rifles is excellent. Pride of ownership is another benefit of owning a Noveske rifle. Good luck with your decision.

John Noveske and his team are well known for his SS barrels, but he also has his chrome lined N4 series and SS chrome lined variants. The SS chrome lined models don't appear to be a standard production item.

I wrote one of the reviews on the Noveske N4, and after having handled almost every rifle and carbine that they make, I can say that they are all built with incredible attention to detail. No matter which barrel length, rail, or configuration you choose, you can't go wrong.

There are reasons that John and his crew and well respected in the industry. Not only do they make an outstanding product, but they are some of the nicest people you could meet.

Thanks to all for the replies.

If anyone comes across a review on the rifle series (not N4) please let me know.

Have a great week!:)

I think there are probably more reviews or comments on Noveske barrels or uppers, than on the complete weapons (with the exception of the N4).

I do not see the reason to chrome-line stainless steel barrels. The properties of stainless steel is not ideal for that. Otherwise, the type of stainless steel needed would negate the reasons for using it in a barrel for accuracy gains.

I believe that ordinary shooters would be better off with 4150 or chrome-moly-vanadium, while target shooters should favor stainless steel.

Finally got my Lo-profile upper zeroed at 200-yards - Yeh ok, that's lame and inappropriate but it's what my range is like and where they put the target stands, and the distance to which I'm accustomed.

I'm not a very good benchrest shooter - I'm impatient, but it shoots pretty good. The X is a double.

As you can see I also threw a/some flyers (the 8) with the Black Hills 68gr Match - the lower circled group is PMC 55grain ammo in a rapid string.
