I am going to kick off this year's SHOT pictures with HK, especially with the ultra slick HK G28 sniper rifle.

Huge thanks for Mr. Weber for allowing me to photograph their booth this year.

The locking screw is to secure the stock for a solid lock up of the stock to the buffer tube. but this feature will eliminate the collapsing option.

Buying one of those 14.5" uppers, minus the lower, to have pinned with a SF K brake. That with an SR-15 lower should be nice.

Mr. Knight's [url=http://www.instmiltech.com/]Institute of military Technology[/url is to collect, preserve, and interpret historically significant properties relating to the technical and tactical development of armored warfare. The museum also collects vehicles and other memorabilia that have significance for both military and civilian. IMT does not glorify war but is focused on the education and preservation of these disciplines for future generations.

The Museum's core missions cover 3 main areas to ensure the work that is performed is to the highest quality:

PRESERVE historically significant artifacts and the memories of those who designed built and maintained them to act as a living memorial to those unsung heroes. Click here to learn how to help with IMT preservation efforts.

EDUCATE civilians and military professionals regarding the development of modern warfighting technologies and tactics. Click here to learn more about how you can help spread information supplied by IMT.

MOTIVATE the public to take a more vested interest in preserving military history so the story of how and why modern day designs were achieved.

SMGLee...thanks so much for always doing such a spectacular job with all these SHOT pics.

Apparently HK didn't get the memo....Skinny Jeans are the rage right now, those rifles look soooo heavy, the rails on the 416/417 rifles really have me scratching my head.

Thankfully those don't get me at all excited since we can't even own them as U.S. civies anyways. Either way, I'm still a 100% HK handgun guy so I'm not a total hater:)

the gray and green guns look nifty. Florida Gun Exchange always brings a tan SR-15 to every gun show, its a joy to handle....KAC does a really good job with the coloration.

anyhow, does the triple tap equipped gun have a background story?

It's a f**king TRAGEDY...the 6x35mm certainly isn't a paper tiger either. I sick and tired of wanting a PDW to be perfectly honest, but the more I can't have it, the greater my affinity grows for it:(

The KAC LP rifle/upper is a very, very nice addition to the lineup!

Nice pics!

I like the adjustable stocks on the G36s. Was always my biggest issue with the G36s that I got to shoot, in just light clothes they were pretty easy to shoulder and shoot, with anything heavy though they really kind of sucked to get a proper fit for the rifle. Looks quite good too.

SMGLee, thank you for the start of the incredible pics that are coming from your camera to our homes or duty posts!!!

I really like the attempt to have the telescoping stock to the G36, although it looks a bit off compared to the originals, but that its adjusting and still a skeleton stock is nice...but I will keep my original for now~!

As a trivia, color scheme on G28 is same camo color that used by Rommel's Afrika Korps in WWII. This is what Bundeswehr requested for use in A-stan - not HK's idea.

Thanks for posting these. Did they give you any lead times on when these become available? What do you think of the new URXIII panel accessories?

The panels at the show were machined, just to get them ready in time. The result is that I personally thought they were extremely aggressive to the point of chewing up my hands.

Now that said, the finished ones will be molded which means they'll still be aggressive but won't be sharp. I still like the Delrin handstop, as I wear a glove and like the rails as thin as possible. But as a production items it's a cool idea all things considered.

ITAR is not only about goods itself. It is also about design, parameters, how it works, etc. If something did not notice fall of communism, ITAR for sure did not.

01-23-12, 21:56
Any word on if the uppers (5.56) will be available separate? I am mainly interested in the 16 inch and 11.5 inch.

I have a SBR'd lower here that I would love to put the 11.5 on to then I would have no problem buying the 16inch gun. Just really do not want to go threw the NFA line again.

Titleist
01-23-12, 22:11
SBRs will be sold as upper kits only. Not sure on the non-SBRs but I believe so. I'll probably get the 14.5, have it perm attached (upper) with a K brake, and then buy another SR-15 lower.

jonconsiglio
01-23-12, 22:14
From the images, it appears the 14.5" is using the same length gas system as the 16" SR15, correct? That URX 3.1 rail with a 14.5" barrel is pretty slick.

Edit - looking at the image again, it's pretty obvious that it's the same length gas system.

Titleist: When you say kits, ie, buy it then send to some one to build it?

It's actually a bit longer than mid length (slightly longer than intermediate as well), it's the same as their SR25. I had two SR15's and they ran fine for the most part, it just seems there'd be very little dwell time with that gas system and a 14.5" barrel.

I'm also assuming the barrel in the 14.5" is the same as the 16" in their SR15 16" e3?

I'm curious how this barrel performs. Mine weren't the most accurate but they ran fine.

Do you mean different, that it will ship to dealers within month or so and MSRP is $3995?

I guess they're letting the PDW die since nobody is interested in the caliber they made for it (or made the PDW for).

Too bad it looked like a nice design. :(

Actually we are not letting this program die, we are still currently active with these systems.

Does ITAR concern itself with photos taken of defense articles by non-US nationals, or is that sign just "Keep Out, Vicious Dogs" bullshit?

I work with ITAR every day. The sign was marketing, pure and simple. Sure, the weapons are export controlled as are things like the workings of their sights and other types of data (e.g. models and simulation code). However, if an item is visually sensitive you can't display it at an trade show (a non-US Person might see it [a photograph is not required] and bingo! Export violation).

Neat blasters, though.

Great big thanks to Lynsey Thompson, Mike Mers, John Hollister, and that cool cat with the bread.....

With the sudden departure of the great leader at AAC, the company are going to head toward an unknown path in the foreseeable future. Meantime.....

The best looking, and mostly likely one of the best performing(hope to be shooting it in the neear future) suppressor on the market. the new AAC SR5 and SR7.

Experimental one off suppressor build to demonstrate the positive lockup of just using the acme style thread on the AAC flash hider, with a firm torque to tighten the experimental can, the can attach to the flash hider thread with a solid lock up, it took me with two hands and the gun between my leg for leverage to get that experimental can detached. this is just using the thread...amazing.

The trigger feels good, almost like the original Glock17 before they started shipping with the 8lbs spring. the reset are better than the non-existence M&P. overall the gun feels good int he hand, the trigger pull are good enough for defensive use but still crisp enough for accuracy. pending the price, it might be a worthy alternative to the Glock and S&W.

This year's SHOT was no different than last. a lot of interesting products, but the spread of the SHOT placed Tactical section all over the convention center, which making my job non-easier. although I do feel the attendance was definitely up from last year.

Few things of interest as I continue to post the pictures by companies.

HK----HK G28 sniper rifle, only two in the country and they were on full displayed at SHOT.

Daniel Defense---alternative rail for the HK 416

AAC---SR5/7 suppressor, and the Noveske NSR rail/upper, with the very interesting KeyMod accessory adapter concept.

Remington----Much revised ACR, also reduced weight making this rifle a serious contender for a great combat/defense rifle.

KAC---New 308 can with a new attachment design, plus the ultra-cool M110 carbine.

I will continue to update this post as more companies are posted. this year I took a total of 1950 pictures from 48 companies....hope you will enjoy them.

Thanks for taking you time to see those post. and if you see something interesting, please contact those companies and tell them you saw it on M4C, it will make my job easier in future SHOT shows.

Thanks again and enjoy

The MSR and and R4-MagPul (with an MOE+ and STR stock) would be viable civilian models. The XM2010 dropin setups are pretty awesome looking as well, not sure how much that gains over from the 5R700's with the 2.0AICS kits.

But seriously, of those, the R4 is the only one I'd consider unless an MSR at a good price point with a Leupold Mk6/Mk8 on it.

DD finishes barrel blanks made in Germany and (not sure 100% on this one) makes railed handguards for MR556A1.

I'd buy it if they went a little shorter on the rail so people can use the HK folding front sight and sling loops.

All 3 new handguards for HK416 (DD, Geisselle and Remington Defense) cover gas block in way that prevent use of folding front sight and require removal of sling loops. I see pattern here, maybe this is what users want?

DD makes many of the barrels for even the LE 416s.

This is new for me. AFAIK only barrel for HK firearm that is finished (not made, just finished) outside HK are barrels for MR556A1 and MR762. Unless you mean non-OFM replacement barrels.

this is still one of the most beautiful carbine on the market, now a revised receiver and rail interface to create a much stiffer platform. LWRC introduce the new M6 IC-SPR. This gun features a mid length piston to delay the quick piston impulse therefore eliminate some of the early bolt unlocking under pressure issue common with the carbine piston system. and a lack of an adjustable gas regulator will help with lowering cost.

Elite Defense, Arms exporter and distributor founded only three years ago in the States are a force to be reckoned with. Elite not only are one of the best and trusted arms exporter in the States, they are also distributor of fine gear and goods for the world market. now they are making waves in the mount business. this QD lever design are one of the best I have seen so far, slim, and low profile, but at the same time, it locks solidly in place and provide a secure worry free lock up. look forward to more mounts and devices that will be designed and based on this QD level. Daniel Defense probably has some sort of hold hamless/non-compete clause in their business relationship with HK, but it would be nice if DD made CHF, lighter weight profile, chrome lined/nitrided replacement barrels for the MR556/HK416 civilian market since it is doubtful HK will.

I am planning on seeing just how much use the MR556's barrel can take, but it would be nice to know there was a source for replacement barrels out there other than the super heavy standard MR556 factory barrel that needs 3rd party re-profiling.

Just about anyone can make replacement barrel for MR556/HK416. Take unfinished barrel blank, turn it to desired profile, fit HK barrel extension, drill gas port, install. Done.

But seem like MR556 owners prefer to modify existing HK barrel than can be turned down to about any profile imaginable and cut down to about any length between 104" and 16.5". HK416 users can order light barrel profile from factory if needed. HK introduced this option several years ago.

I was going to order a LRP-07 from JP, but rifle has peaked my interest. The upper an lower receiver look like the LRP-07, the gas block looks like the JP adjustable gas block that his been modified for a gas piston and it even has the JP heat sink on the barrel. There were no pictures of the weak hand side of the rifle, but it must have the non-reciprocating charging handle?

Any idea when these will be available? This configuration with a 14.5" bbl to run suppressed will hopefully be my next rifle! Hmmm....I need to call JP and Remington.

Just a quick note, the improved stock of the ACR (lighter color, tougher material) is a retractable stock only, not folding.

The Remington ACR is much lighter now as Chen stated, and leaves the Bushmaster variant standing in terms of overall quality (no surprise). Remington reps are well aware that no-one wants the Bushmaster version (and yes, they hear it all the time *s*).

Hopefully in the not too distant future, time will tell.

Buy an AAC 300BLK then. They come with 8" URX IIIs.

or a Noveske or what ever else. But then you would not get what that one is, its all in the details.

7" URX II <- I would actually prefer this.

8" barrel (why not get it as short as reasonable)

Then all the KAC proprietary parts, this is the big deal stuff that can"t be sourced else ware.

E3 bolt and barrel extension

Non FA upper receiver with 600m KAS buis

KAC ambi lower.

The thing about this vs. the PDW or the PDW SR15 is everything but the barrel already exists. The effort needed to offer this would be very minimal.

I could see offering the PDW in .300blk needing some real re-engineering and not being worth while to bring to market.

Oh, and .300blk ammo actually exists and at a fair price.

The ACR-C PDW variant still maintains the folding stock.
Thats the one i'm interested in. :D

As long as the Remington versions exist I don't see why anyone would buy the Bushmaster one.
I hope Remington listening to what they hear. :(
I'll try not to hold my breath though...

Roger that - you and me both brother. I don't know how long the Bushmaster/Remington contract lasts, but hope it runs out damn soon. The gent I talked to was fully understanding and would also like to see them on the commercial market.

His only concern was supply and demand, that they couldn't manufacture them quickly enough. That in itself should be a sign that there is demand, I just hope it comes to fruition.

This is 100% true.
FACT.

The military is buying little of anything in the way of small arms and its only from those shall I say "in-the-pocket".

I'm glad to hear Remington is getting a ton of feedback for civilian demand.
I know I was exchanging emails with them for awhile until they couldn't give me an answer for swapping a fullauto trigger assembly for a semi one and thus being civilian legal. lol

Maybe there is hope!

They definitely make some eye appealing rifles...too bad a Maryland based company has very few dealers where we can actually handle the guns before we chunk down the coin.

I wonder why hardly anyone in MD sells LWRC Rifles??

I'm a Knights Armament fan and I own a SR15-E3 but as an observation based on the photographs they need to hire someone to properly display their firearms. Some of the Rifles look like they were dragged across the show floor. Maybe a Silicon cloth would have been a good idea. It's like going to a Car show and seeing a car with mud on the tires and brake dust on the wheels.

Just an observation so don't flame me for being honest. :D

So true. Piles and piles of Chinese junk. Not to mention completely unrelated stuff.

I usually go to PA shows. Still a lot of foreign trash but the shows are bigger and you see more Magpul and TroyInd and Aimpoints and EoTechs. Got a good price on one of those 60rnd surefire mags. Maryland 20rnd limit take that! :D

Good to see increased motivation towards innovative bolt gun products and complete systems. It's obvious that folding stocks and detachable magazines play an important role with them. The stock on this seems well thought out and doesn't resemble a roll of barbed wire or entrenching tool. Even down to the right side fold and encompasses the bolt which lessens over all width.

the SOD Gear stuff is very well made and designed, with features that standard BDUs don't have. same thing other brands Arc'teryx etc, that cost a lot more than surplus. whether the extra cost is justified is entirely up to the individual, and that will be different for everyone.

We had some guns damaged in the setting up of the displays.

The other thing is we needed to ship the weapons to SHOT a few weeks prior to SHOT, and so on some of the new guns, they where literally thrown together for the show and did not go thru our QC/QA department inspectors.

We make some good notes about what to correct for next year.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss12/huge/P1090607.jpg
Some very noticed improvement to the new P-Mag. the lowering of the front magazine ledge will allow the new P-Mag to work with guns such as HK 416 and FN SCAR, this will literally eliminate the need for the e-Mag.

A revised rear cutout to give a more positive lock up of the bolt held open

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss12/huge/P1090605.jpg
this is a very important improvement, this more pronounced ledge on the rear of the magazine will eliminate magazine over run into the mag well. this has been a very annoying problem with the previous P-Mag, once an over run has happened, the mag will lock solid inside the mag well and can't be removed unless some extreme force were applied. and this also render the gun inoperable. this much needed improvement will make magazine over run a thing of the past.

1. Is the PMAG on the right in the first pic a 40-rounder? If not, why does it appear so much longer than the standard PMAG?

I'm guessing the thin slanted vents are made that way for the use of mounting accessories to the angled portions of the hand-guard.

there is no way thats a quad rail... just sayin.
looks (the best i can tell) like the one BHI is manufacturing.
looks more like this: http://www.bhigear.com/bhi-15completeupperreceiver.aspx

but the Magpul has a top rail that runs the length of the rail....

Thanks, Titleist.

So... does anyone know why the M3 mag looks so much longer in this shot compared to the original PMAG?

Looks like a bit much to be a simple optical illusion.

It is also interesting to note the MWS version has slant cuts on top and holes on the bottom while the MRP has slant cuts top and bottom. Wonder what drives that difference.

Looks like the classic magazine optical illusion to me. Look how much higher the highest point on the rear of the magazine on the left is than the magazine on the right. Then consider the POV of the camera. The magazine on the left is clearly further away / higher up on the table than the one on the right. It's a 30 rounder.

Good question! I'm wondering what drives the decision? The old MRP has been working just fine. Why change it?

Those are actually Vltor's SCAR parts... Check that group of SMGLee's photos.

Did TangoDown have any other SCAR accessories on display besides the charging handle and stock latch? They were working on longer replacement rails with QD sling cups and a new extended rail system. I haven't seen any pictures of them from SHOT this year. They were supposedly very close to releasing the replacement rails.

Thats awesome to see new ammo boxes for the M249 SAW (or whatever new version they have out now) for the troops over seas. I remember carrying the M249 with the shitty plastic 200 round drums and they would always come loose and drop to the ground making the loudest noises when on patrol. Then we switched over to the smaller 100 round nutsucks, which really didnt hold enough rounds. Plus each SAW gunner only got (1) 100 round nutsack to go on the gun, and had to carry the rest of his rounds in the crappy 200 round plastic drums. This new ammo box looks like it will easily be able to hold 200 rounds and seems to be a quality design. Good stuff

Does a Costa rifle mean they are HPT/MPI bolts and barrels and such?

I may have missed something because I don't follow Larue products terribly closely but I was under the impression they didn't test in this manner or at least did not in the past.

I'm sure if Chris is putting his name and logo on it that it would be good to go.

I am sure its no different than their other rifles which means no on the NDI testing.

I dont know were you are going with this question but there are many threads here dedicated to the subject of MPI/HPT testing and to the matter of when are they needed and what not. Like most KCA products the Larue is no different and has done away with what has become basically an obsolete and unesesary step.
