View Full Version : Dissipator build
I have almost completed the mock Dissipator that I have been wanting for quite a while. The purpose is just a simple irons site rifle that will be a KISS rifle and also serve as an "irons" rifle in competition. I wanted a pinned FSB due to the robustness of it. The largest hurdle building this rifle was finding a mid length barrel with a properly pinned FSB at the rifle location. Adco took care of this for a not so modest price. However, I am very happy with the Adco barrel and workmanship.
I may get a Daniel Defense fixed rear sight to replace the YHM folder. I may switch the ACSL stock for a CTR(Magpul).
Heres some details:
Essential Arms lower
RRA NM trigger
Mil-spec Buffer assembly
Magpul MAID grip
Magpul ACSL stock
Magpul MOE rifle length forend
Adco barrel assembly (16" CL mid gas)
Upper & FA BCG/CHH (off of Troy Carbine)
Adco barrel (btm) next to Troy Carbine barrel (top) for comparison

Nice build, I love the dissipator type rifles
What I like the most is the improved sight radius and the extra handguard space. Looks good.

Me too.
This is my first build. I am happy with the results. 120 rounds of cheap 55gr (Herters) downrange without issue.
I love how you did the mock dissipator set up. I always thought the reliability of an actual dissipator was questionable. I like how you made that work out. Good job.
Looks great. Why did you pin the front sight and not the gas block?

Would have cost me another $55 to pin the GB. I can do that my self (I'm a machinist). I ended up dimpling the barrel for set screws myself. I may pin the barrel when I get around to it.

I didn't notice that before.....
I would suggest pinning it, only because of my personal preference.
Although I really don't foresee it failing dimpled only because its under the handguard.

I agree. I will likely do that.

that looks great.
i have mocked up my mock dissipator,
but still need a bcg and stripped u.r.
lot of firsts for me in this one,
first magpul furniture, first dissipator, first nitride barrel, etc.
i just paid for my first pmags a few months ago.
i got a regular pmag, window pmag, and lancer for free at a work event about five years ago, scoffed, and never took them seriously. i have let time tell and opinions to form on facts, and think magpul is pretty solid.

Looking great man. I like the robustness of my fixed FSB, but I like the versitility of your railed FSB.

Interesting look.
Simple and clean setups, I like the dissy look a lot. It will likely be my next rifle and my first build.
I like the "meat" on that barrel.

If I may ask, how much did Adco charge?
If I may ask, how much did Adco charge?
$225 for the barrel
$130 for the FSB (pinning it to the barrel included)
$30 for the gas block
Total including shipping was ~$385

You weren't kidding about the "not so modest" thing...
But, beauty costs money I suppose. Thanks for the pics. I have been trying to decide on a mock dissy or just plain Jane middy hand guards for my next build.

You have to really want to build a Dissy.

Great build. I'd go with the LMT or a Matech for BUIS.

I went with a fixed Troy rear and liking it.

That much of a pain?
That much of a pain?
Well not really. But $355 seemed like a lot of money for a barrel assembly(gas block not included). Of course every since late December, $355 doesn't really sound a whole lot of money to spend an an AR.

Very nice looking Dissy! Good parts and services choices.
Well, good barrels cost money. Good, QUALITY, gunsmithing services cost money. Good quality parts will always cost more than no-namers.
These are the "gun facts of life" both before, and after, the panic set in. Considering the current market you did rather well price wise.

Is that your entry into the "Let's See How Many Handstops You Can Fit on a Rifle Contest"?
Good lord man, how do you hold that thing?

Well, if you ever run out of bullets, you could try to saw someone in half with it. ;)
"Hey buddy, wanna buy a handstop?"

:D
I had a drawer full of these. I kept wanting to put all of them on a rail... should have squeezed a VFG in there some place!
single handed you're keeping the production of index clips at full steam.

The Alibaba CHINESE rip offs that is! ;)
You win TWICE with those... you don't give LaRue any business and they actually have a better/rougher grip texture too!

Why not Give LaRue business? What is the deal?

Dude, that's like asking why he doesn't like lwrci or keymod or free float tube style handguards.
I made the mistake of questioning markm once. Never again.
Just accept it.

LaRue is a bag of Douche. The Clips were the one product I had to pinch my nose and order from that goofball....
Until China ripped him off! :p
