View Full Version : x300 on an AR rail
How do you get it to stop rattling around? I know the x400 (the laser/light) has a screw that tightens down because otherwise the laser would lose zero, but I haven't found any way to stop my x300 from sliding just enough to make noise.
You can use aluminum foil to make a shim. It will tighten up the fit, but there will still be some movement.

I used up all my aluminum foil on hats
Is there anything a little more permanent and... "better" I guess for lack of a good word?
What insert are you using?

Universal... is there any way to get another one?
Try contacting Surefire, all my X300's came with the universal insert and the 1913 insert.

K, thanks! Mine didn't come with a 1913 insert so I guess that's where my confusion came from.
Yeah, your X300 should have come with multiple inserts. I also had this issue. After swapping in the 1913 insert, it worked flawlessly! Good luck!
I thought they all came with Universal (U), Picatinney and one for Glocks or something? Now I need to check mine.

If your 1913 insert is missing, you can just get another from Surefire for free: http://www.surefire.com/rapid-replacement-parts
Surefire has some of the best CS in the business.

Thanks man! I didn't know they had a page for rapid replacement parts. I have dealt with Surefire's CS before and they are top notch.
Just got a new X300 Ultra the other day. It comes with three different inserts. The 1913 insert is more than snug on the rails.

Maybe mine was missing? Shit happens every so often, so I'll use that link, thanks!

If your not using the universal/1913 lever latch but instead using the stronger rail lock setup with either the universal/Glock slider or the 1913, there is still a small silver screw on one side that tightens up the light by applying pressure front the underside that touches the rail.

Thats only on the X400

I'll see if I can take a picture and upload it but it has one on the x300 with the rail lock setup. If you look at the rail lock there is a cut out tab in the middle that has SF on it. When you tighten the silver screw, it pushes out on that tab which puts pressure on the rail. With it tight you can't even pull the light off even with the rail lock disengaged.

You're thinking of the thumbscrew mount. The X300 has an option for a more solid lockable setup.
The caveat is that this setup can affect compatibility with some holsters, particularly custom kydex ones.
I have to use a rubber mallet to take off/put on my X300 on my AR, it's that tight. This is on a DDM4v7.
To the OP, if you add a thin strip of electrical tape to one side of the x300 rails you can get it to snug up non-mil spec rails.
Or get the right parts from Surefire ;)

Same here, it defeats the purpose of quick battery changes. I bought one to mount at 12 o'clock on a DDM4v5. I even tried a LaRue QD mount but it sits the light too high and obscures the irons. I now have a TLR-1 HP on the way, it has the same lumen output.
I use an X300 with the Picatinny slot key and it's TIGHT on Knight's, Daniel Defense and La Rue rails.

It comes with two insertes. The U is for universal pistol rails and the P is for picitany rails used on rifles. Make sure you have the right insert in the light.

If you still have problems I use no stick madical wrap the foam stuff and place it on the rail it tightens up a lot
I got the P part from surefire... Quick mailing, no charge. Definitely has my repeat business now.
It still rattles around a tiny bit but it's good enough now!
Make sure the little screws on the bottom of the X300 are tight enough too. Sometimes they "look" tight but you can wiggle them around.

I have the same problem with mind. Glad I found this thread and a cure for it.

Surefire has great CS. I'm actually starting to wonder why companies like Surefire, Rainier, SKD, S&W, G&R, Brownells, and others have such great CS. I mean is it that firearms companies tend to be nicer? Maybe being veteran owned and supporting has something to do with it?
I wonder what the reasons are. Hm. But I'm not complaining!
