Ok my deal fell through on the Essential Arms lower. So I stopped by local gun shop he has 5 of each CMMG and Smith and Wesson complete lowers for 499.00 each he had just got them in. Is there any issue with each I did a search and seen where CMMG has some issues. Any complete rifle around here is 2 to 3 times original price. So I guess I will build my own.

Those are insane prices, but I would go with the S&W. I have seen where the CMMG has some fit issues on some of them. Mostly in the magwell.

S&W for sure, can't go wrong.

Out of those two, S&W. I haven't been too impressed with CMMG.

Smith for sure. S&W>CMMG.

CMMG blows. You may have problems even with just one of their lowers. S&W makes nice lowers.

no problems with two of my CMMG lowers with BCM uppers. Get whichever has the nicer rollmark of the two.

Let me clarify why I said S&W>CMMG. I had two friends that bought 3 CMMG lowers between them. Each one had something out of spec. So, a sample size of three says go with S&W; FWIW.

S&W all the way!

You got lucky.

I've read many horror stories about CMMG lowers being significantly out of spec.

Has anyone seen any S&W lowers for sale online?

$499 is expensive, but if you're set... buy the smith. Smith not only has the best CS in the business, but a MUCH higher resale value.

Smith, no doubt. Would likely pass on anything CMMG even for free.

S&W does a nice lower, flared magwell and satiny finish. I like mine a lot.

no issues with my stripped S&W lower at all. My CMMG stripped lower had the magwell not machined correctly. looks like they use a mill and cut the top and bottom halves of the magwell seperatly. was so off I could not even fit a standard GI mag without sanding the magwell. the store had another CMMG and it had a burr about 1/8" big at the mag catch cut out. seems they have very little to no quality control on their parts. would not buy from them again. only reason I bought it was because they had no S&W lowers in stock.

S&W and never look back. S&W is the backup to my BCM.

As others have said S&W. Their lowers are gtg.

Another vote for the S&W

My S&W lower is great, just put in a nice trigger and make it even better :)

I have no experience with S&W, but I DID have an issue with a CMMG lower recently. I returned the whole gun. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I have no interest in owning anything with a CMMG stamp on it ever again.

I had both. I never had problems with my CMMG lower, but it was one of there first ones, and the finish was excellent. I sold it about four years ago to a friend. However, I still have the S&W lower, built on a AR pistol with no problems whatsoever. Who knows, I might send in the Form 1 to make it a SBR

I prefer Mega Lowers but have built 2 CMMG lowers and have 2 stripped in the safe. The two I built went together fine and functions 4.0.

$500 for either stripped lower is a joke.

The $500 is for the completely assembled lowers, not stripped.

Ok, but it's still laughable. I had some gun friends calling me yesterday, "hey, I really want to get an AR... What's up with the prices? Do you have anything you might sell us?".

Same dudes come to my house, I show them my stuff... "Man, do you really need all of this stuff?".

Karma is a bitch, the unprepared can pay the scalpers prices.

None of my stuff is for sale.
