I am currently looking to purchase a new rail for M4 ORC. I am going to mount a fore grip and other options and would like something that is lightweight but durable.

What is a good rail at a reasonable price? Are there any brands to stay away from? Yes, I know this is a broad question with thousands of answers. I appreciate any suggestions anyone may have!

I recommend you look at the Centurion series of rails. They have quite a few options my favorite being the 12" FSP.

For a light weight system, check out the Lancer Carbon Fiber rail.

I would check out Daniel Defense rails. Great quality, durability and light weight.

I bought a Troy drop in battle rail for my 6920 and so far, for $150, I really like it.

Noveske, dd, troy, centurion arms all make good rails. I would try to get out and see what you can put your hands on.

I have DD Omega rails on some of mine and DD lite rails on the others. I'm very happy with them. Light weight. Reasonably priced. Super easy to install. Super strong and durable.

Good luck finding them.

I have a Daniel Defense 12.0 Omega X FSP, picked it up cheap used, Centurion Arms FSP is also excellent, Troy now has the Charlie and Delta drop in rails that are getting excellent reviews

I have a KAC fetish. You can find them pretty cheap if you look on gunbroker. I just bought a KAC RAS for my A4 style AR15 for like 90 bucks with 4 rail covers. Doesn't include the full kit but its close enough.

Now Carbine RAS systems typically run about 150 bucks on it but always seem to include everything. It is kind of weird.

The KAC RAS is what the USMC and Army use. I can't say what the secret squirrels use, but for dissipating heat and generally hanging crap off of, KAC works great.

I have the KAC rail on my work SOPMOD'd M4. I'd swap it out if they'd let me.

Really? Why don't you like it?

Way too short.

Just sold my kac ras. Its a ok system. But a 7 inch rail is very short. Every time I shoot unsupported I grab at the bayonet lug and it doesn't allow the barrel to free float. However it is user installed very easily, is not to wide, solid, and does allow you to hang stuff off of it.

IMO it is a good rail to get one started, or even for those that are quite advanced. It gives you a good solid foundation, but lacks some of the "nice to haves"
