View Full Version : Crony Gun Control: Obama Leveraging Wal-Mart to End Private Gun Sales

They are doing everything they can, are we???

Just as Obama used crony capitalism to leverage pharmaceutical companies into advertising for Obamacare, so too is he trying to fashion gun control legislation in way that will make Wal-Mart one of the legislation's most prominent supporters.

The irony: As of right now, Wal-Mart is one of the leading sellers of firearms and ammunition, if not the leading seller, in the country.

The goal: Obama wants to end private gun sales, period. Not just "close the gun show loophole" -- which is a bogus argument to begin with -- but to end private sales between a father and son, a mother and a daughter, two neighbors, two hunting buddies, etc.

Wow. So he's probably already got teams of thugs contacting major manufacturers like Colt to get them to end making guns for private citizens.

Just sayin'...

I can quite happily never enter another WalMart as long as I live if they do that.

WalMart was a significant contributer to the Obama reelection campaign.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed by getting the support of gun makers. Licensing, banning imports, mail order, etc. was seen as a way to squeeze out discount players and cheap foreign guns, etc.

That will be the end of cheap, local ammo for many.

Thats gonna be a problem for most of the nation, at issue is the domination Walmart wields in rural America, where they long ago chased out small American family businesses, replacing their small, but crucial services, with their own!

I live literally in the middle of the northwoods, Wally-world is it, as far as groceries and pharma are concerned...

I cannot tell you how many rounds of 9mm Fed 115g ball I've bought from WalMart. I have employees there that call me when it arrives.

Ditto. Just got a call on 420 round cans of xm855 for $160. Barely got there to snag the last can. $34 for the Federal 100 round value packs are a great deal too, but they're not in much anymore.

Manager there says they've got 30 of everything on order and are holding prices on all ARs. $9xx for the Sig 552 and $10xx for the 6920. Who knows of they'll ever get em in.

Wish I knew a WM like that...

I guess I dont understand what getting Walmart on board with getting rid of the private sale "gun show loop hole" will do since I have never seen a Walmart that would accept a transfer from another FFL let alone a private individual. So unless Walmart is going to change their stance on that, I guess I dont get it... Unless I am missing something.

It's not about Wal Mart doing FFL services, it's about giving them more of a 'corner on the market,' if you will. Ending internet sales of firearms via local FFL and stopping the online sale of ammo, forcing people to use local brick-n-mortar stores. Since WM has pushed a lot of those smaller businesses out already, it offers to channel even more foot traffic to the 'superstores.'

The whole 'closing the gunshow loophole' is just the face of it. The phrase itself, as does much of the media reporting on it, implies that gunshow = no NICS for sales of firearms. It's never about what they say up front, it's about getting a foot in the door.

I have bought most of my ammo from Wal Mart except for a couple bulk buys at gun shows.

Wal Marts here in Jacksonville have been sold out of AR's for weeks.

Perhaps this will turn the tide for local businesses. A small business needs a competitive advantage over a large discounter and that usually is in the form of locally made items, better service, better quality, etc. No one is going to sell anything as cheap as Wal-Mart, but if they exit the firearms market that should open the door for local business. If you want cheap buy from a volume discounter online. If you want it now pay more from a local retailer. OR perhaps places like Cabelas would see an opportunity to expand into more areas. They don't have the lowest prices, but they are reasonable on most things.

It will be interesting to see if this "voluntary" compliance of corporations is limited to the likes of Wal-Mart or spreads to Bass Pro, Cabelas, Academy, etc. Any retailer that goes along with this might just as well quit selling ANY firearms related items due to the likely backlash.

A local guy opened up a knife store and also does sales as an online shop. He has pretty decent prices on quality knives, and the store prices are the same as online. That could be a good business model for local firearms stores.

All I know is that if Walmart does anything that I construe as anti-gun, I will never step foot in their stores again. I have already vowed to never buy anything from Dicks again.

I wont beat Walmart up from attending the meetings, but if they choose to jump on the band wagon, im done with them.

I have a suspicion that Walmart knows there will be huge backlash from all the gun owners since I would venture a guess that a large majority of their customers are gun right supporters.

I called Walmart Corporate to voice my concerns. The customer specialist explained that the company was going to listen to the administration but also to its customers. She had clearly read this script very often in the last day or so.

I don't see walmart being loyal to the 2nd amendment, only to profits.

Kind of like Ruger and Colt a few decades ago.
