I wanted to set up a M4 for my all around needs. I wanted to get rid of the 4 M4s that I had and make one perfect one that can do everything. I know, that is a lot to ask for. Well I might not have the perfect M4 but I think it is pretty close.
UPPER:
CMT with M4 Cuts
Noveske Afghan barrel with Vortex (perm attached)
LaRue Tactical pined gas block
LaRue Tactical 12.0" Handguard LT15-12 with Tango Down rail covers and MagPul ladder rail cover
Tango Down Forward Battle Grip
Troy Industries Battle Sights- They are the standard for sights
CMT MPI Bolt
PRI Gas Buster Charging Handle
Surefire Scout Light- I am waiting for my LaRue Mount to come in

LOWER:
DMPS Lower Receiver
CMT Parts Kit
MagPul Trigger Guard
MagPul MAID
KNS Anti-Roll Pins
Redi-MAG A1
MagPul CTR on a CMT Tube
Two PMags

Optics:
Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T M2 WITH LaRue Tactical SPR QD Mount 56994 LT104-30
or
EOTech 552, GG&G Accucam with a Hensoldt Magnifier With LaRue Tactical QD Pivot Mount LT649

I have only been able to zero it and besides a bad Mag it ran like a champ. With a little effort on my part I was able to get 1 MOA at 100 meters. Now that I have it set up the way I want I plan to put a couple hundred rounds thorough it for a real test.

How do you like that poorboy set up from Larue, nice build by the way

It is great. It gives me just enough magnification to hit targets at 150M + and it does not get in the way or weight that much. I think it is the best addition to the EOTech ever.

Very nice set-up Doc. :D

I went to the range today to sight in a new scope I'm testing and didn't have as good luck. I have the same LaRue SPR QD mount, and was using a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10. I have no doubt that both the scope and mount are top notch quality so I can only guess it was user error. I'd get a couple rounds practically touching each other at 100 yards, then the next two or three would be off by several inches (but also grouped). I'm still trying to figure out the issue. If the whole target looked like a shotgun pattern I'd know it was my shooting. But this was like 4 or 5 different little clumps of groups.

I was also using a Noveske, a 14.5" low profile upper.

LOL

That is very weird. Is the scope mounted level in the LaRue mount? That is the only thing I can think of. Good luck finding out what is wrong.

Thanks, and you might be right. I tried to set the scope in the mount properly, but I'll be honest, it was with the mk1 eyeball.:D I don't have a good bench rest or levels, or any other tools for ensuring the horizontal crosshairs are really horizontal. But even if that were the issue, I could see the groups being off windage-wise as the rifle tipped slightly. But these groups were off from each other in both windage and elevation.

I'm by no means good with a scope. Up until now I've used Aimpoints, EOTech's, and ACOGs...in other words all scopes that are basically idiot-proof when it comes to mounting. :D I definitely have a lot to learn when it comes to "real" scopes, but today was pure frustration (and ammo wasting). :(

Nice gun docsherm. Seems like a good balance except one thing, and maybe you did this for the pictures, but I wouldn't have a flashlight on a scoped rifle.

I keep the Surefire on the carbine all the time because it just doesn't weight that much. In a pinch I could do some CQB drills with the Leupold on the 1.5 setting. Most of the time I would have the EO Tech on it for that kind of stuff.

Damn. I was hoping for another M4 to look at.

After helping a buddy build an M4 clone recently, I've really been interested (again) in looking at them and building one myself.

Oh well... :D

I will take a N4 over a M4 any day. :D

I have tried so many types of grips and I think these are the best.
