I am really excited for the X300V and X400V IR. Lets hope we don't have to wait too long for them! :D

Awesome. Is X300 Ultra obsolete now?! my local shop has had them on order3-4 months before Shot Show and now there's a new version.

Was a bit disappointed to see nothing new with the Scout line, and then they dropped the thing about upgrades coming later in the year.

Anyone know if its just a new Scout head or are they updating the entire line?

Hmm, wonder how many will come into existence and make it to the market... That P3X Fury looks good, but I'm curious of the switching fucntionality with the dual output, clicky, push-through like the LX2. Thanks for the video update.

01-14-13, 23:31
I'm speculating that there will be updates for the Scout lights from the end of the video when it say "more to upgrades come".

Also with the single cell V1 Vampire I think it is safe to say we can also could expect a single cell M300 vampire head.

I wonder if they'll ever be able to push 250 lumens with a single cell light.

To me, the M300 is the perfect size/weight.. I just wish they'd release it with 200+ lumens and I'd be set for life.

The technology is there, I bet they will. The EB1 is putting out as much/more LUX than the E2DL/M600C, so the EB1 head when it is single-mode, should do fine. I bet a single-mode makes it to the M300 very soon.

You can bet that the M600C will get a 500 lumen TIR head similar to the X300U, as they have always been "twins", and why waste the R&D for optics/etc.? Yep, both of those I would bet money on.

500 lumen Scout is what I really need.

An X400 with an IR laser (Class 1) would be awesome.

I'm curious to what the Omni switch is on the Fury weaponlights

Edit: Also at the end of the video the handheld is an E2D so I'm assuming an ultra head for that or at least a bump up to 320 lumens like the G2X and 6PX late last year.

I'd buy one of the new DSF shotgun lights, if the street price is under $300. I have one of the older 618 lights on my 870, and the newer LED lights are just so damn huge.

Are they releasing the prices at SHOT? I looked on the Surefire website, and the new lights are not listed yet.

I'm praying they'll release that new Defender by 2014.

Good question. I doubt that the the X300V will fit on a HK45C rail.

Yup, I want 500 lumen replacement heads for my scouts, not sure why they are dragging their feet on that given the popularity of the scout lineup. Better yet, an upgraded output vampire head too.

I'm also interested in the x400u and the IR version.

If it works like it's supposed to and Doesn't cost $800 then that X400V-IR will be great.

I wonder if there will be a new Scout head for the mini or if its just a new head for the M600. I need a new mini and if they're planning on just releasing the head I'd like to grab one already.

I'm in the same boat. I emailed SureFire in October and they said they should announce something by the end of November. Still waiting patiently.

Everything isn't our from last year? Wasn't there supposed to be a high output LX2? With these really high outputs, I think the LX2s system of low/low-pressure high/high-pressure is a best way to go.

Not seeing too much new (just more lumen output), and a push of some stuff they promised in 2012 to 2013.

All I want is higher lumen scout stuff...I know TNVC has a 500 lumen scout head retrofit, but it would be nice to get everything from a single source.

01-16-13, 16:49
how much of what they announced last year was actually released? I remember seeing an x300 compact that would fit on hk45c and p30 rails, however they haven't released that. They announced a flashlight that you can wear on your wrist like a watch, but they haven't released that. They announced an x400 with visible green laser instead of red, but i don't think they've released that yet either. Those were the items i was looking forward too most but they haven't released any of it.

The MV300 and X300V look like the answers to my illumination needs on my suppressed carbines. The cost probably won't be super fun, but I guess I can make some of it back on my newly obsolete SF stuff.

Only really big thing to look forward to at 2014 for this at the civvy end will be if there's a version of the ITI low IR output dual laser system that will accept a vampire head, and run on a pair of 123A's.

In addition to product, SureFire also introduced its new training facility. It's about 15 minutes outside of Vegas. Indoor live fire pistol range. Indoor 100 yard range. Several outdoor square ranges with room for many more. Brand new simunitions house for force on force training with another on the way. They have an off road driving course, meeting rooms, air conditioned classroom, etc. seems like they will be able to cater to large military or federal units as well as classes for civilians. The facility is huge with a lot of room for expansion. I got the tour today. Pretty cool.

Strangely I want one as well... I would feel like some kind of astronaut from the future on an distant planet while wearing one... Next I predict that they'll make an Android/Apple OS touchscreen version so that you can run your facebook app while conducting missions. :D

Not excited about these - 150 lumens? IR is great it you need it, but they should have at least bumped it to 200-300 lumens.

I think that would be a little too bright for indoor work.
Have you ever tried to turn on one of these while its dark and your eyes are adjusted for it.
You'll blind yourself.
And if it's got IR, wouldn't that also assume you're using NV?

Completely different head/diode setup. It is what it is. If you don't need IR, then there are plenty of other white light options with higher output. If you do need IR, then you either sacrifice the higher end lumen range for a dual output head like Surefire's or possibly go with a dual light setup.

FWIW, I've found that under 200 lumens to be best for indoor and over 200 best for outdoor. Not sure what is the best range for IR output...

From my personal experience, I've actually found 100-120 lumens of flood to be more than adequate for indoors and 200+ lumens of a more concentrated beam good enough for most outdoor scenarios < 100 yds. That being said, a 500 lumen Fury, though mostly flood - would throw roughly as well as a properly tuned 200lumen with an optic due to the sheer output (though you will also most likely light up the surrounding area as well).

I am still at a loss as to why they couldn't have at least squeezed 200-320 lumens out of it.

I agree with you. I used the under/over 200 lumens as a generalization. I didn't say it earlier, but I do prefer to carry over 200 lumens since I don't really know what situation I'll find myself in. You can tame the "too high lumen" issue with certain lighting techniques, so my theory is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

That's interesting about the Fury, never played with one. Might have to give it a try.

As far as the IR/White head lumen output, my guess is that the technology just isn't there yet to have super high outputs on either diode in one single head. Although, I'd hate to see the battery life if they do come out with one

You are wise.. wasn't disagreeing, just giving my opinion. Ideally, someone needs to make an optic for the XM-L LED that focuses some of that spill light, putting more lumens into the hotspot.

The technology is definitely there - no one is going to use IR and white light at the same time - so they just need to cram two LEDs into the reflector/optic, and use the same driver or a specialized dual driver. They should be able to get full output in both modes. My guess is that the IR LED can only be driven to 150 lumens, so to simplify the design, they used the same driver to power the white LED. Bad design in my opinion.

Link to Geissele Automatics (http://geissele.com/index.aspx)

Geissele is famous for their extremely well crafted combat and match triggers. the quality is unsurpassed by any measure. two year ago Geissele was tasked by CAG to develop a rail system for their in service HK 416s, and the birth of the Geissele super rail along with its sibling the Super rail for DI gas AR arrived at SHOT 2012. It was one of the coolest looking rail to come along in quite awhile, and it was featured as the OEM rail on the Haley Strategic Jack Carbine.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss13/large/P1100939.jpg
This year Geissele too that rail one step further and release to the public their revised Mk-IV version, which is more refined, lighter and more modular then the last year design.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss13/large/P1100935.jpg
Few points of interest...
1. the enlarged cooling slots are to reduce weight while not giving up any rigidity
2. the new collar for the lock bolts are design to be foolproof, so if you happen to strip the threads on the locking collar, you can always ha ve it replaced instead of having to replace the entire rail.
3. the light weight barrel nut has been through a patented anodizing process that is only used in high friction automotive components, this process enable Geissele to produce a lighter and more durable end product.
4. Build in sling QD swivel points
5. Relief cuts all around the rail to lighten even more weight.
6. the rail to receiver interface are redesigned to maintain the rigid interface but at the same time reduce more weight.

Overall, this is one of the BEST rail design i have seen in a long time, it is definitely worth your investment for your next carbine build.

The amount of engineering that went into the Glock optic/light chassis was stunning. What's noteworthy of that design is that the incredible G forces that are placed in an optic mounted directly on a pistol slide are almost non-existent, since it's on the frame.

Their gas block also looks great.

The history of the sniper rifle display is neat.

The M21 is a pretty significant missing component. It was probably the closest thing to the "weapon theory" predecessor of the SR25- bringing Night vision, sound suppressor, optical sighting, and gas operation into one widely fielded sniper weapon system for the first time.

We have a M21 setup as above, however the Army does not consider it to be a fielded Army Sniper Rifle, more of a stop gap modification.

Did John design keymod or Eric at Vltor?

That is a great point... I assumed since Noveske introduced it and brought it to market that they designed it. I don't remember Vltor being involved in many of the threads when it was being brought to market but I could have easily missed it.

For some reason I thought this was one of John's pet projects but that could be off the mark. I was surprised to see it pop up with another AR manufacturer, as that certainly would dilute any market share that you might have enjoyed as the sole company offering it. I think I saw a bolt gun company offering it also.

I think Vltor introduced it and released the specs as "open source" to be used by other manufacturers. I just don't know where the concept originated or if Noveske played a role vs being an early adopter.

If your gonna call bullshit on an outfit like Geissele in regards to their reasoning behind a design, than you better be sporting the goods to back up your bullshit claim.

If ALG said that was the reason it was brought to the market, then I most certainly believe it given Geissele/ALG's impeccable record for being honest, and overall transparent. If you knew the history of ALG, and Geissele it would make perfect sense to you, as ALG's primary mission as a company is to make kit exactly like that glock mount, and the ALG triggers.....or kit geared specifically for LEO/Mil requirements.

Do you doubt the several other specific tier one requests for kit from Geissele such as the HK rails, or SSF triggers?

For the record, Geissele and ALG don't have a marketing department or even an employee dedicated to doing marketing for their products.

I would concur with you about Tier one bull shit marketing if it was anyone else, but Bill Geissele is a stand up guy and vetted by industry heavyweights. Mr Geissele developed the HK 416 rail at the request of Delta, and now Delta is having their guns deliver from HK with the Geissele rail pre-installed.

Hmmm not too sure what's going on. I did notice in the SHOT Day 1,2,3 thread that the white light lumens was blacked out with a sharpie out for the M300V so I am thinking it was a typo at SHOT.

Also the lack of X300V, X400V is something I noticed too. Maybe the catalog isn't updated? So many questions yet no answers. I guess they want us to sit tight until they release the new stuff.

I certainly can't argue the facts of a first hand conversation. I can question his incentive for making the statement. Unfortunately, only he can provide an answer. My skepticism is driven more by economics than anything else. Geissele is in business to make money. Removing the commercial market from the equation, how many hundreds of those mounts will he have to make and sell to tier one types to recoup his R&D costs let alone make a profit. That prototype could have cost $10K if you honestly consider the true time/machine/material costs. He is going to have to sell a lot of them to get back to zero. There just aren't enough tier one types that are going to adopt the mount to make that happen. With the economics of the mount out of the way, we can move on to first impressions.

It's going to need a dump pouch for a holster. The primary and only sight requires a battery. Why does it need a blast deflector when it doesn't have a compensator? Why do you need a magazine well for a "six second" run? The mount itself is not slaved to the slide but secured to a polymer frame that is subject to intense firing cycle physics. How long will it hold a zero?

... as ALG's primary mission as a company is to make kit exactly like that glock mount, and the ALG triggers.....or kit geared specifically for LEO/Mil requirements.

Really?

The AGL mission statement says:

Triggers designed for those shooters where tradition, value and regulatory concerns are of primary importance.

Translated: I like OEM triggers, I'm to cheap to buy a Geissele and I like to spend my free time writing letters to the ATF Technology Branch.

How did you get "kit geared specifically for LEO/Mil requirements" out of their mission statement.

I'd be willing to bet that 99.8% of Geissele's production capacity is sold to the commercial market. Any business model that is MIL/LE oriented is going to fail, period. There isn't enough of it and pricing invovles entering a race to the bottom.

Do you doubt the several other specific tier one requests for kit from Geissele such as the HK rails, or SSF triggers?

Doubt has nothing to do with it. I don't care.

For the record, Geissele and ALG don't have a marketing department or even an employee dedicated to doing marketing for their products.

Geissele manufactures high quality parts and by all accounts has a great reputation in the business. I think we can agree that at this point, their reputation alone will carry the business model. Geissele has no reason to play the "Tier One" card. I personally could care ****ing less about tier one anything. In most cases, I run from ANY company that chooses to use it because it doesn't resonate well with me.

Simply look at the Geissele 416 rail, how many MR556 or how many 416 are in use? how many SFOD-D operators are in serivice to fulfill the demand for Bill to pull even on his investment? I don't think there is enough 416s in Delta to help Geissele come out on top on this venture. Most likely he will not recoup the cost of developing the 416 rail, but Bill at the request of the Unit, jump at the chance to do something for them. In the end something good came out of it, his Super rail for AR were an off shoot of that project, and he could likely make money with the rail for the DI market. so as you debate the point of dollar and cents, I just don't think that statement could stand with a man like Bill....

What you don't realize is that JSOC will write a check to develop a prototype. That's how they get holsters developed for some of these unique items (like the X400 on a Glock 22 {the only X400 fit safariland offers} or the mini-RDS ALS prototypes). A lot of products are brought to the commercial market after Uncle Sugar fronted the start up costs to get what they wanted.

Bill's mount looks a hell of a lot more secure and rugged than the rest of the frame mounted optics mounts available. Durability (or the lack there of) with slide mounted optics has proved to be a concern, hence the interest in Aimpoint RDS sights and reducing the forces upon them. The holster concerns only hammer home the fact that it wasn't developed the commercial market.

I've talked to dozens of guys who had Geissele triggers in their issued rifles. Why do you think they offer parts for the SCAR-17 and the HK416? It's because they're getting requests from units that will pay for them.

As for their being no money in LE... that's false. I do LE sales and our numbers are WAY up this year. LE sales are pretty recession proof. Bad guys still need to be shot and locked up even when the economy is in the toilet.

Doubt has nothing to do with it. I don't care.

You don't have to believe it, but the bottom line is that the most demanding and best trained and equipped unit in the world prefers his triggers to other "match" triggers on the market. That speaks volumes when you have companies like KAC and LMT that already have .mil contracts for their equipment, yet Bill still gets their business for triggers.

Bill's equipment has been vetted under worse circumstances than 99% of us will ever face... that's something to be proud of, and I can't fault him one bit for being honest about it.

Geissele is a solid company with an impeccable reputation, so I have no doubt that if they say a product was requested by a Tier one unit, it was in fact requested.

I have 80K rds on one of Bill's triggers... w/o issue, while burning through several carbines. At this time, best in class period.

While milling ones slide, and adding a red dot of some sort, may be the rage among some. As you burn through high rd counts, on a slide mounted dot. you will get an optic failure. None are sufficiently robust to be counted on indefinitely.

Also a much more consistent sight picture is presented w/o optic cycling to & fro. The displayed product meets a professional requirement, although likely not yours.

The organizations that pay for specialized equipment.. pay what's required for low rate specialized equipment. It's not charity. The vendors agile enough to meet these requirements will also benefit from massive institutional knowledge and rd counts unheard of elsewhere.

It's clear MK18 pilot flies his mouth more than a CQBR. I'd suggest pondering more, typing less.

Not to derail the previous posts, and I know this was just put out, but did SMGLee get any trigger time with the Glock? Did anyone? I ask because I dig it but I know there were reliability issues with Glocks and hanging lights off them. Also how accurate would that mount be attached to a plastic rail?

Not trying to start any BS. I'm honestly curious regarding the long term viability of the mount.

I did not have any trigger time on it, but i did spend fair amount of finger f78king time on it. I love the way it looks, and what normal guy doesn't with this kind of machine work on a gun part? but would I buy one to use on my Glock, as I shoot mostly local USPSA and IDPA matches, I would have no use in the production class I shoot in. but if I have the cash to build a my Glock is cooler than your Glock Glock.....It would be tops on my choice along with gunsmithing work done by ATEi.....

Competition shooters have been running frame mounts for optics on Glocks for years.

Reliability issues with lights being attached have been fixed through a number of upgrades to the magazine assembly, as well as in the introduction of the Gen4 40's.

I'm sure accuracy exceeds what the end user with factory ammo is typically capable of.

Bill's equipment has been vetted under worse circumstances than 99% of us will ever face... that's something to be proud of, and I can't fault him one bit for being honest about it.

This pretty much sums it up. Unless someone's personally been inside GA, specifically Bill's office, I would suggest that you keep your assumptions of what goes on behind closed doors to yourself. Anyone that knows Bill will tell you he is as straight arrow as they come and will attest to his character.

I got a good chuckle reading this thread.

And where did that $10k number come from? You'd be surprised how cheap it is to make a prototype on a 3D printer. Just saying...

If Bill tells me this Glock mount is designed at the request of a tier one unit that does a lot of hostage work, I would wholeheartedly believe him.

Let's stop and think. What elite hostage rescue unit uses Glocks and red dot sights AND Geissele rails and triggers?

I can't think of one...;)

RyanB
01-30-13, 23:30

I would expect that he gave them a quote and they cut a check. Custom kit costs custom money.

Mk18 Pilot obviously fails to understand the SOCOM business model, the usually get what they want - and while the sky may not be the limit on pricing, Geissele triggers don't have to worry about being underbid by a RRA march trigger. :D

Per their rules,

B. Add-on weights for a competitive advantage (this includes, but is not limited to, weighted magazines, tungsten guide rods, brass magazine wells, weighted grips).

Granted the actual magwell isn't brass, but the use of brass in the plug would be a no go.

I could make a holster for a glock with that mount easily and I am very amateur working with kydex. Raven or PerSec could bust them out easily. Without a weapon-mounted light retention is on the trigger guard and with one, it is on the light itself. You would just need to form an extra large holster with ample room for the optic/mount to clear.

I think the coolest part of this mount is not having to modify your gun! (plus no reciprocating optic)

LWRC has been consistently represented each and every year with their fine workmanship, the attention to detail in every facet of their machining and the overall one of the best craftsmanship in the industry.

http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss13/huge/P1110419.jpg
I have been a owner of a LWRC IC-SPR for the past three months, it is simple amazing when you hold the rifle in your hand, examine every little detail int he construction of the gun. This is by far the most well made gun I have seen in a very long time. the detail to their machine work on the lower, the upper and finish, it is almost like looking at fine art. I was never was a huge fan of a piston gun nor LWRC, not until three months ago. the IC-SPC changed my mind as how well this piston gun shoots, and lack of front end heaviness and the accuracy of the hammer forged barrel. and most of all, the lack of cleaning was simply amazing.

I was replying to the idea that the employees responsible for the intertube shenanigans were still around. But you're right, that haunted them for a while.

I've owned 2 LWRCi guns which worked just fine for me in my limited experience. An M6A3, which I let go in order to buy a SCAR16, and a UCIW, which I currently own.

The piston design didn't do anything on the 16" barrel rifle other than ease of cleaning vs. my DI rifles, but it works quite nicely with the 8" barrel on the UCIW, and the ease of cleaning is nice.

I'm really looking forward to trying out one of their new ambidextrous lowers, that might move me back into a 16" piston gun. Although, there are rumors that they might come out with DI rifles as well. I know the 300BLK they showed last year was DI design.

militarymoron

not enough material to bore it out. it'd compromise the sight more than i'd feel comfortable with.

From lwrci's web site
with a spiral fluted barrel. The spiral fluting shaves weight while relieving longitudinal stresses that can cause ‘stringing’ in barrels with conventional linear fluting.

What are the chances of the m6ic pdw being built and released to civi.

From LF:

Currently LWRC has had to streamline ALL production in order to make delivery on rifles ordered. No more one-off shit, paint jobs, and configurations until things plane out.

In the forseable future, the PDW's best hope is that an agency orders enough to warrant production of that stock assembly. There is a ton of machinetime in that stock assembly.

Per their rules,

B. Add-on weights for a competitive advantage (this includes, but is not limited to, weighted magazines, tungsten guide rods, brass magazine wells, weighted grips).

Granted the actual magwell isn't brass, but the use of brass in the plug would be a no go.

Most of these Glock parts are still in prototype stage......so we will never know what the end product might look like.

Gotcha. Thanks (it's obvious have never seen the inside of the current VIS).

How does it handle dissipating the heat?

totally missed replying to this, sorry. as you know, heat shields are more about insulating the shooter's hand and hand guard from a hot barrel than dissipating heat from the barrel, so it's not going to contribute towards cooling the barrel. how much it affects cooling and whether that's a practical concern, i don't know.
my .02 - for quad rails where you typically mount rail covers/panels on the rails that protect them and also insulate your hands from heat, i don't think heat shields are needed (although the VIS had them). but for tubular handguards and now this keymod, where people are less likely to cover with rail panels, a heatshield might be a good thing.
