I recently picked up a mini scout for an AR and was trying to figure out how to mount the pressure switch. I was scratching my head and debating pulling the trigger on surefire's $70 rail mounted pressure switch, then I decided to make my own. I started with a KAC 6-rib rail cover and did a little dremeling.

As you can see, I got a bit carried away in one spot and went clean through the rail cover. As far as I can tell it doesn't affect function so I think it's fine.

Here's the rail cover with the tape switch super glue'd in place.

And here it is mounted on my rifle.

So far so good. Just playing around with it in the house the pressure switch seems to be firmly secured to the rail cover and to the rail. I don't see it going anywhere and it was a very cheap $5 fix to a $70 problem. I plan on shooting tomorrow to see how it holds up to the stresses of shooting. I don't really like how my folding front sight can't fold flat now, but if I slide the rail cover too far back then it's not in a comfortable place for my thumb. Ideas?

Nice work brother, and it's amazing how Surefire's prices inspire ingenuity, or as we say here in Alabama....Redneck engineering:)

I bit the bullet finally, but great minds think alike...

Trident, your thread was motivation to build my own pressure switch. Thanks!

I made this a while back when I was out on a field op for a few weeks for my PEQ16. I was tired of that crappy adhesive side of the switch always falling off. Now i just use it for a rail cover on my personal.

All I used was the file on my Leatherman to knock down the ribs and some Gorilla glue that i had in my pack. Its super ghetto, but it worked!

Speaking as someone that does run a SF rail switch...That looks like a great alternative idea.

Thanks, it has treated me well so far. Sunday I plan to put it through its paces.
