Hello, I am a new owner of a fastback carry nightmare 1911 sig. This is the first 1911 that I have ever owned. I just had a couple of questions regarding lubing and cleaning the pistol, for now anyways. I wanted to know if there were any specific types of gun oil, solvent, or grease that one should use over any other. Currently I use hoppes #9 solvent to clean all of my guns and I use hoppes elite gun oil for that. Are these sufficient enough for cleaning and lubing a 1911 or do you guys, or gals, recommend using other products? If so which ones do you use and why? Any help with this would be much appreciated. I have not taken it out to the range yet, I am hoping to pull it apart, clean and lube it before taking it out. I am super excited!

Congrats. It is a great weapon.

There are no special cleaning or lubing requirements for a 1911. The old standby Hoppes works just fine.

This makes me want to give my Kimber some shooting love. I think I'll shoot it some tomorrow. :D Been having too much fun with my G19 and .22s

Weapon shield is amazing! I use this on all of my custom 1911s. 200 round in less than an hour it is still in place. Order direct or the Midwater USA.

Thanks, I think I might actually order up some weapon shield and then strip down my 1911. I read a lot of good reviews about the stuff. I have always used hoppes thought.

Hoppes and break-free has always worked for me and my 1911. Enjoy it! You're good with what you got :)

Just as long as you lube. Every 1911 I have owned was ran pretty wet and I have never had an issues. Each manufacturer has their own "recommended" lube but just as long as you use one, I believe you will be OK.

I usually clean with break free and lube with whatever synthetic motor oil I have on hand. Pay special attention to to the locking lugs

Thank's everyone for all the advise with cleaning and lubricating my first 1911. I am surprised I haven't heard many critiques from members saying that I shouldn't have bought the sig and went with something else instead lol

I'm planning on the Sig sauer nightmare being my next gun purchase. I talked to my local gun shop and he said it would probably be around a $1,000. Is that a normal price? Or have prices been going crazy because of recent events?

Why? Sig makes a nice gun! While its from Ze-Germans, nobody is perfect I suppose. I have a Mosquito, love it, I'd love to try one of their 1911's whenever I have some spare cash.

The only think I don't like about the Sig 1911s is they look like Sigs!

I drank the Slip 2000 Kool Aid and that's all I use now.

For a carry gun I use this grease applied with an acid brush on my 1911's.

Grease doesnt migrate like oil. This is more of a concern with my 1911's than M&P's. M&P's and Glock's etc probably would run dry for a while.

Congrats on the new gun. I like Hoppes 9 for cleaning and oil (sadly I can't remember what oil but it's a generic from a cleaning kit). I usually have RemOil on hand. Having owned several 1911s of various configs, I found they like to run wet - least mine did. Be generous on the rails, wipe the excess so it doesn't drip, then run it.

Is that a Govt sized 1911? I can't find specs.

Trust me...try the weapon shield...it is at a different level than the rest. I an not affiliated with them by the way, just OCD. I do use Hoppes No. 9 for cleaning though. I know all oils will work but it is a step above. I've tried most others except a synthetic motor oil.

I'm relatively new to the 1911 world as well, having bought my first last spring. I've found Hilton Yam's 10-8 website a good reference, in particular this 1911 user's guide (http://www.10-8performance.com/pages/1911-User%27s-Guide.html).

it's been a couple years since I took apart my most used 1911. once in awhile, normally after an IPSC match, I'll blast it out with RC car cleaner (just high pressure denatured alcohol) and lube it with slip2000. I only keep one lube on me, and it's primary use is on the carbine.

come to think of it, I don't think I EVER took the hammer/sear/disconnector/trigger out of that gun. :D

ETA: please don't think I'm recommending this kind of irresponsible behavior. Treat your 1911 well

That's probably the single most annoying thing about posting on internet forums. At least to me. :D

Finally found some ammo in my area! and was able to get out to the range to put the first 100 rounds through the new sig nightmare carry 1911!! Gotta say, I need some more range time with it when I can, but she runs like a dream. ( Through the first 100 rounds anyways lol)

I like grease on the rails and oil elsewhere. Seems to stay better for me.

Congrats on getting your first 1911. I use CLP to clean and lubricate mine.
