I plan on applying for my CCW soon and will have to wait a few weeks for the process to go through. In the mean time, I've been looking for a carry gun and decided on the Glock 19.

With all the craziness going on right now, is now the time to buy a Glock 19? Are prices inflated right now for the 19?

I would try getting one as soon as you could. I managed to snag a brand new FDE G19 for $509 with an extra mag and some ammo before the new year. If you can find one I would snag it ASAP, though.

Agreed. All the local gun stores that don't over charge within like 50 miles of my office are completely out of 19s. One place has gen 4s for $650 and another Gen 3s for $609, but that was last week, so even they could be gone at this point.

I'd go with a Gen 4. They appear to be easier to fix than the Gen 3's if you get one that has extraction/ejection problems.

I just picked up a new Gen 3 G19. You can get them at non-inflated prices if you look. Magazines are a little harder to come by but I picked up 5 in a trade.

At a minimum, I would load up on mags (if you can find any) if you know for certain that you are going with a G19. There are problems with Glock factory 10-round mags, as have been documented in other threads.

Handguns are not really being discussed politically right now. Magazines, on the other hand, are.

Check out your local Armslist listings. I've seen some as low as $550 currently with multiple magazines.

Around here, you can forget about it at a store/FFL.

Good luck finding one. They are arriving regularly around me, but they go quick. Some places around me are gouging, some are not. One store has gen 3's for about $500 when in stock, I keep calling to see because I want another one (mine is the first gen). Other places are charging $600+ for ANY glock. Of course they also want $4k+ for a basic AR, so f*** them. But if you can find one reasonable I would go for it.

Look for mags is great advice. I managed to pick up 2 about a week into all this craziness, wish I would have bought the store out when I had the chance.

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks back and I could not find one new or used. I ended up finding a brand new Gen 4 19 and I did not hesitate to buy it. It was the only one at the gun show. I still have not seen one yet and I am in gun stores several times a week. If you find one, buy one.

Buy one if you can find one at normal prices. I wouldn't pay more. However, you might want to buy mags before because they are very hard to come by right now.

I buy all G17 mags. The only G19 mags I have are the ones that came with the 19s I bought. I keep a 19 magazine in it when I carry my 19 but all my spare carry mags are 17 and they will also work with my 17s. I mean if you can conceal a 15 round mag you can conceal a 17 round mag.

Around here...if it is an autopistol and it holds more than 10rds...it is priced from "wow...thats kind of steep" to "holy shit are you nuts?"

I'd wait.

Chances are we will not get the ban and the panic will subside and prices will level off. We've seen this before but everyone is acting as if this is new stuff.

Good luck trying to find Hi cap mags. My LGS doesn't ANY mags at all and even the Police trade Glocks are selling like crazy. Hopefully you will find some hi caps......somewhere. :confused::(

I wonder how backed up Glock is with orders?

I just picked up a nice condition gen 3 G19 w/ night sights as a police trade-in from Black Bear Arms for $375. Two extra mags (the pistol came with one) and shipping totaled $425 to my FFL.

The pistol was in excellent shape though the sights are dim.

Very happy with my purchase and he mentioned he had some gen 2 19 trade-ins also.

That was about two weeks ago so they may be gone now.

Mags have completely dried up around here, but I have a co-worker that bought a new Gen 3 G19 right before Christmas for normal price with the three mags. Of course, those deals may have dried up since then. I sold a G19 in early 2004 and regreted it terribly. I knew I would eventually pick up another. After September of 04 when prices normalized, I started buying G19 and G17 mags and then eventually bought another G 19 in the 2009 timeframe IIRC. I am so glad I bought all of those mags.

I was glad I traded into a used Gen 2 G19 a couple of months ago. Always wanted one just to learn the platform, they are great guns.

You might have to pay a premium,mcheck out online sites as well.

Yeah, I saw them online and at the LGS for @$550 awhile back. Saw a blue line G19 for $439 OTD in early December.

I don't think it has anything to do with paranoia. If you are buying firearms to resale them without an FFL, that is between you and the ATF. If you are reselling through an FFL then great for you. If you are selling them to someone you have never met and no nothing about without a check, I would say that is irresponsible to say the least.

Anyways, regardless, the OP asked if they should buy a G19 now, not if they should buy a G19 to flip to make money.

This REALLY pisses me off. My dealer had G19s in stock when I ordered my blue gun. he didn't tell me it would be that long to get my 19. I would have spent the extra money to have it now. I would think I have a fat chance of getting a regular 19 now at a normal price...

Well, I elected to put a deposit down and wait, because I was getting a good deal on price with the trijicon sights. Of course, Newtown has happened since then and I hope nothing stupid happens here in Maryland before I take delivery.

Yea, the capitol city here in RI tried to ban ALL semi automatic fire arms. They passed it, but then realized that state law will not allow a town or city to make a law that is more restrictive than State law. So Now Providence wants the State General Assembly to pas the law. Granted, the law would prove to be unconstitutional. See Heller V. DC ruling.

Here in the north west, we are starting to see G19s show back up. Some dealers are claiming that Glock is only shipping them with one mag... which is complete BS. They are stripping mags and dropping an extra 50 bucks to their bottom line.

I have put around 1000 rounds through a 17. Own a 19 and a 26..

I am having trouble justifying a 17, when the 19 does everything in a more compact package.

Or maybe the awsners is a 20SF? who knows.

I was at the gun store this weekend and they had to 17s, two used 22s, and one new 19 for 525 but no night sights on it. Prices on these weren't too bad but they were charging 2750 for a LE6920 with Magpul furniture.

I think Glock is still working to get all the bugs out of the latest Gen 3 & 4 guns - I still see some issues in my classes from time to time which tells me they aren't quite there yet

2013 dawns and I still don't know how to answer your question in regards to Glock 9mm's - I want to think things are better but I'm not ready to give them an unqualified thumbs up yet

I'd be inclined to give credence to the observations of any instructor running a high volume of pistol courses across the country.

Don't wait it out. Keep looking; I've seen some $500+ Glocks in Arizona including 19's. I remember the last AWB and Hi Cap Ban and pre ban mags were always available albeit at a huge mark up. So, if you buy now you lock in what you want at the going price. If you wait, you may be paying $100/mag for hi caps for G19's. Try GunBroker too.

^^^ yeah that's my problem. I understand your logic, but I can't decide on a platform to commit to. I'm already heavily invested in glock mags so would like another 19 (as I said earlier in this thread), but part of me wants to go the Hk route and reinvest; there just isn't enough time/ $$ right now.

So, all that blathering out of the way, I would suggest to the OP to pick your platform now, commit to it, and buy everything you can to support it through some drought years (because even if a ban doesn't happen now committing to one platform has a lot of benefits), and don't look back. But choose wisely grasshopper.

Au contriare. I found $12.95 korean mags at botach (we'll see) and just yesterday Midway had OEM mags at $24.99 a piece. yeah there was a 2 per customer limit, but they are out there if you are glued to your computer. (I got both deals due to the "where can I get it" thread)

Excellent tip. Stay glued to the forums and you are sure to get an early heads up. But jump on it early or miss the boat.

Natchez has Glock 19 15 round magazines in stock right now. They are $34.99 and shipping isn't cheap but they are a pretty good buy for this market. I usually buy direct from Glock but they are so backordered that they are only doing agency orders at the moment. Good luck.

FWIW the mags from botach were delivered in under a week. Haven't had a chance to test them yet. I was leery about botach due to the reputation they have, but this time it appears to have worked fine.

Botach is always hit and miss. I ordered LMT rear sights from them two different times in the same month and both orders shipped the following day. In November I ordered five G17 mags that were supposedly in stock and it took seven weeks for the oder to ship.

You never know what you're going to get with Botach.
