View Full Version : NEW Daniel Defense Offset Optics Mount
Just got some of these in. Great mount for you 3 gunner types or if you just want a non-magnified option to go along with your scope.

These are interesting. I seem to recall seeing one being tried out at a recent Pat Rogers course.

I saw that at SHOT and it is very BADD ASS!
I wonder I had some inspiration in it's invention? ;) When I was dabbling in Open division I used an Aimpoint H1 in that manner.

gotm4,
How come you ran your T1 so far forward on your JP tube?
Grant will it have the same angle if you mounted it to the top rail with the T1 on the 9 o'clock side?
I don't know about mounting it on the top rail, why not just mount it on the 9:00 rail if you want it on the left? I mean I guess you could, but it looks as if it would be closer to horizontal, if that mattered to you.
I saw it in Pat's class too, Eric was running it right beside me for most of the class. He was playing around with how far forward or back to put it. If I remember he was having some issues with lube and fouling obscuring the lens when ran far to the rear near the ejection port. But it was working very well for him in all!

Yes, but unless you are a lefty, I would not mount it on the 9 position.

Appreciate the info Grant. We currently have four rifles with ACOG's and are looking for a side mounted red dot. One guy on our team is a lefty (genetically gay).
I tought by looking at your photos of it mounted to the 3 o'clock rail it could be done on the top rail left or right handed. We do not have a free float rail system and use standard handguards so it will have to go on the rear reciever rail.

You are correct. All Lefty shooters are G A Y (less Vickers). :D

MSRP is $39.95
I've been running this for a while now. Still loving it. Works well on the 12 o'clock rail under the ocular lens of a large scope. Gives a sharper angle to clear other items on the top rail (but was designed to work on 3 o'clock rail with PEQ-2 and PEQ-15).
3-gun inspired, but was developed at the request of black ops units.
Also, flip it over and attach a X300, TLR or Scout light at 5 o'clock or 7 o'clock.
Get two and run offset front and rear irons...

Eric,
That's pretty slick! I hadn't thought of using one like that! Good stuff.

Damn Eric, that and an X300 on the side of my rails might be my flashlight solution.

Works real well in that manner.
For you guys using a RDS with an offset mount are you running the unit forward or back towards the reciever? And the why's?

To answer you and DocGKR:
When I ran a H1 I ran mine very far forward. I find with RDS sights (non magnified) which don't have a proper eye relief (like magnified scopes do) that sight/reticle acquisition on target is faster than if the same optic or iron sights were closer to the shooters eye. It's a coarser accuracy. Because of this I would never suggest running a primary RDS optical sight to be used on a long gun like this, it's only faster for close/very close range. FWIW many of the Open class pistol shooters in USPSA/IPSC use 8MOA C-Mores because of the speed.......very fast up close but for most shooters trying that optic trying hit a 8" plate at 50yds and you'll see the inherent accuracy go right out the window.
I run the JP irons on of my VTAC tube and they're extremely fast. These sights don't lift like major caliber pistol sights do because my rifle shoots extremely flat, this allows me to make hits faster than I can with a pistol at 15yds and closer. I've measured my splits using these irons at 10yds and average .06-.08sec with 2 A zone hits on an IPSC target at that distance. I only use my irons on my 3gun rifle for out to 15yds and sight-in for POA/POI for 15yds, beyond 15yds I just use my Leupold on 1.5x and aim 2 inches high. I just shot a rifle only match yesterday in Topton PA. I'm hoping to have placed in the top 5 (in my division) in that match.
