Bought a Mosin PU Sniper from AIM. 1943 year, all machining rifle parts and rifle serial matches the scope. Great looking gun to go along with my regular Mosin. Did the bolt cam surfaces polishing which really improved the smoothness of the bolt and reduced bolt stick. Later on I plan to do some more trigger surface polishing and try corking the stock. Trigger is much better than I thought. It weighed in at 4.75lbs on my trigger weight scale. My regular Mosin trigger is 7.75lbs. I shot an OK group below, I couldve done better probably but I was developing a case of Mosin shoulder going through the PITA zeroing process. I have the reticle centered on windage but my elevation screws are staked so the reticle is a little high in the scope since I cant move the elevation screws.

Here are a few groups I fired at 100 yards. Not bad for surplus Russian silver tip ammo:

The maxed out turret adjustments is normal for those reworks from Ukraine. I suggest following one of the numerous guides on shimming your mount to compensate. It's borderline hokey what must be done to make those guns good, but in the end they're just that.

ive done the shimming to get the windage to be centered, but for the elevation the screws are staked and I cant move them. I cant seem to zero out the adjustment knobs either

It took me a long time to get my scope centered on the receiver, you need a welder and a file and lots of patience.

There was some cosmoline inside the knobs causing the disc with the screw holes to turn. I got the knobs to be zeroed now.

Awesome pictures! The Mosin 91/30 PU is a lot more rifle than many expect it to be. Smooth action, crisp trigger, and 1.5-2.5 MOA with cheap (20 cents per round) ammunition. What's not to like? I have a 1942 Tula PU and it's a dream to shoot. So much history behind them too. They were used in a theater that I'd say did way more for the course of the 20th century than any other theater of the war.

Now I've only shot 5 out roughly 17 million 91/30s so my sample size is a bit small but none of them had what anyone would call a remotely crisp trigger. And out of everything I've read no one has ever called it smooth. I'll give you everything else except maybe the 1.5-2.5 MOA. Maybe some rifles but not many.

I can only assume that you're speaking with regard to your experience shooting regular M91/30s and not the sniper variants?

91/30's deemed to be more accurate than 'the run of the mill' 91/30's got put in line for PU. From my understanding, the better than average accuracy rifles just got PU's. Thats it. No additional work. Of course I could be way wrong but thats how I understand it worked.

Edit to add- obviously they got bolt bodies with bent handles also, but thats it!

Yes. But like, Leaveammoforme, I have read that the snipers were just better than average off the line and where only given a scope and bolt handle.

There is a world of difference between my Tula PU and my six regular M91/30s and M38 as far as accuracy, smoothness of the action and trigger pull goes. It's even slightly smoother than my Finnish M39, which is a very nice piece.

I always liked the idea behind the PU snipers.

What magnification is the optic?
