Today I picked up a Sig Trailside pistol in 22lr fror $200. I love how it fits in my hand and I think it is a quality, accurate firearm but I have not heard too much about this particular handgun.

Does anyone have any insights or experience with these?

I have had several over the years, and it is one of my favorite .22s. They were produced for Sig by Hammerli and imported into the US as the Trailside.

Their design, with the barrel integral to the frame, lends itself to a high degree of accuracy. Hammerli is a well known producer of target guns, and this shows in the design. They could be had with adjustable sights, and if I remember correctly, 4 or 6 inch barrels.

Mine were usually a bit ammo finicky for the first few hundred rounds, after that they were pretty smooth with just about any decent quality ammo.

The downsides were/are plastic mags that can occasionally become unreliable, and parts were a bit hard to find after Sig stopped importing them. It is my understanding that Larry's Guns picked up the importation from Hammerli, under the name Xesse (as they are called in Europe) so parts may be a bit easier to get now.

You got a good price on yours.

Super jealous of your find, was it at a LGS?

Thanks PD Sgt. for the info. Was there a particular load that yours like better than others? Im pretty excited about this pistol, i cant wait to take it out this weekend and put some rounds through it.

A lady brought in a stack of guns to the gunsmith im working for after her husband passed away and this one especially caught my eye. She said she wanted $200 for it so i agreed and bought it from her.

Hammerli still produces the gun under the model name "Xesse" and it retails for around $749 for the model that you have.

You can buy parts, grips, magazines, etc. here: http://www.larrysguns.com

It's a great gun and I love mine and I've owned it for years now. You got a great deal.

Whoa, $749? Does anyone remember what the Sig retailed for? I feel bad for only giving $200 if thats the case.

Don't be guilty for paying $200. Local pawn shop is asking $235 for one in like new condition with the wood target stop. I looked at it but after doing research didn't want a 200 dollar gun to turn into a 400 dollar gun. They had some issues. GH

I had my best results with Federal Gold target ammo, but that got a bit pricey for .22, and since I was not shooting bullseye, I quit using that regularly. I have run just about everything through mine, even some crap Blazer, and had good results.

I have a bunch of Ruger MK II's, and a Benelli MP-95E for competition, but always wanted a Trailside. You got a great deal, on a great .22. As others have said, they are capable of excellent accuracy as the factory test target shows.

Smokin deal for a really nice .22. I'd pay $200 for one at the drop of a hat, especially the 6"!

For what it is, it's a great little pistol and it seems you got a pretty good deal on it.
