I have to start this off by saying that Chris Frank is a stand-up guy. He could have cancelled the class, as there were only 4 students (myself and a group of 3 from out of town), but he held it anyway knowing a group was travelling and staying in a hotel.

Everyone was running a Glock. I ran a Gen 3 19 and there was a Gen 4 19, Gen 3 17, and I believe one guy started out with a Gen 3 23 and switched to a Gen 3 19 early on.

We went over proper stance, grip, trigger control, sight picture, drawing from holster, reloads, and target transitions (I may be forgetting something). The class was structured so we covered each aspect individually and then towards the end of class we put everything together and did some shot timer work and some head to head competition on steel.

Chris took time with each student to go over our weak areas and what drills we can do to get better. He was great at being able to see what we were doing wrong and articulating why it was wrong and how it affected our shooting.

I noticed I would rush shots when under time and consequently throw rounds low and left and this class was definitely an eye-opener. I still have a lot of work to do!

At the start of the day we shot 5 rounds at a 3"x5" card as a baseline and at the end of the day we shot the same string again. Every shooter improved substantially even though by the end of the day we were all physically and mentally exhausted because it was so damn cold the entire day.

Chris is a great, no bullshit instructor. I would recommend this class to anyone either starting out or wanting to work on fundamentals and will definitely take this class again (sooner rather than later) and look forward to taking his VSM Carbine class.

Chris thanks for a great day of shooting and sticking it out in the cold with us!

First thanks for the kind words Mike. The weather was way cold. High temp was just over 40 degrees and the low when we got to the range was right at 26. This class was the most engaged group of students I have had the pleasure of instructing. Everyone listened and asked questions when clarification was needed. I think the proof that everyone got it was when all of the students range the steel from as far away as 45 yards when the furthest any of them thought they might possibly make a hit was closer to 10 yards. They all did well and in spite of the cold worked on getting the draw done as fast as they could while working with layers of clothing and the adverse conditions.

A special shout out to Liz. She had a tough time with the initial assessment but stormed back for the final assessment with a group that could have been covered with a quarter. Great Job Liz!!! She earned most improved honors.

Here are some pics from the class.

I'm late to the party and Mike already really hit the review spot on. Chris is awesome, and definitely no bullshit like Mike said. We all improved tremendously from the first 3x5 index card assessment. Chris was easily able to see our flaws and had us all shaving seconds off our shots by the end of the day. Due to the weather, we even got to work a bit of CCW type practice in, working on our draws, holstering and reloads while clearing our jackets. He instilled confidence, but didn't blow smoke up your ass either.

I do have a special thanks to Chris for going out of his way to accommodate our schedule and put together this class, I believe out of cycle, and still ran it even though he said it was the smallest class he ever had.

I recommend this class highly. I look forward to getting out with Chris again. I just wish I lived closer!
