I'm trying to find a black synthetic stock for an M1A. I keep running into dead ends trying to find one. I'm not looking for anything fancy, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
Nick

Go to M14forum.com and check the classifieds.

You want a GI brown stock to paint, not the new Springfield plastic stocks. The early SA black stocks were surplus GI fiberglass painted black and they're good to go. The new ones are a plastic mold and unless something changed they were pretty soft.

I purchased a GI stock from Fulton Armory several months back. It was a little rough, but with sandpaper, spray cans and a little elbow grease it was fully functional in one day.

Thanks for all the help! So is fiberglass better then the new synthetic stocks?

If you are talking about the new Springfield Armory plastic craptactical, yes. If you are talking about a $400 McMillan, no.

Numrich Arms, Midway, Civilian Marksmanship Program usually have surplus GI stocks. The upside of going to the m14forum you can usually see exactly what you are getting.
