Question about getting a barrel melonited

So I've got a barrel that's in the white .... It already has the gas port drilled and the extension mounted. Is it too late to have it melonited? If not, should I try and take the extension off and have them melonited separately and them reinstalled?

IIRC nitriding the barrel with extension is not a good idea because the salts seep into the joint and can cause corrosion.
