Any of you ever offer an extra incentive to your local gun dealer to put you at the top of the list for a rare gun???

All my local gun dealers suck and have no idea about quality. If you want a RRA or DPMS they are G2G but you ask about a BCM or DD they have no idea what your talking about.

All my gun-buying life, really. Usually I'll offer to bring in other customers, or pay $50 extra to get the best one of the bunch if he's ordered several.

I've also let something go from my collection for slightly less than the going rate, or let him have it instead of someone else if he's got a customer interested--sort of a "spiff" for doing me favors.

During this recent gun panic, I let go of some AK mags at a price where he could make some money. I no longer have an AK anyway.

I know that will get me brownie points for the future.

None actually, but I get a lot of people attempting to bribe me lately (offering to pay well over retail, etc).

I was just curious if this was a normal practice for folks.

Although I'm pretty set right now, If I needed one, I would easily bribe someone at Walmart or a local gunshop $100-$200 to get my hands on something like a Colt 6920 or at least call me right when the truck arrives. I used Walmart because they haven't raised prices on the items that they have in the stores.

I know. Just kidding bud. I bet you do get quite a few outrageous offers. Care to share one of the more interesting ones?

Grant I'll pay you $75 if you'll tell us everyone who's tried to bribe you. Ok, make it $100...

...in Monopoly money. (Just in case ;))

The prices I have seen do not make me want to buy...let alone bribe the store owner.

An 1800 dollar Colt 6920...forget it....I'll wait until this blows over. That I saw in my gun store a month ago. I guess some moron paid that price. Whatever....won't catch me doing that sorry.

Cannot WAIT for this to blow over and prices and supply go back to sane levels.

Be careful. That monopoly money may be worth more than American dollars.

I never was that desperate to find a particular gun, but I learned that twenty bucks will buy you a phone call from a minimum wage WalMart employee when the ammo truck arrives. In my case they could look up the shipment and tell me that the truck was on the way and give me an approximate arrival time. After I greased their palm a few times they would "misplace" 6 boxes of the calibers I needed in the back of the storage cabinet below the glass display case until I could get there to pick them up.

I never stole anything, I didn't get any discounts, and I didn't even bust the store's 6 box per visit limit. But I got 6 boxes from almost every shipment back in 2009 and early 2010. In 2010/2011 after prices went back down I spent an obscene amount of money on ammo, parts, and backup guns.

I don't like casinos, and never played the stock market, but these days I feel like a king!

While the thought has crossed my mind I do most of my shopping at the same on-line stores so I don't know that it would get me very far.

Grant,

How much would it take to get to the top of the waiting list for a Colt LE6920?

I think it comes down to the dealer

If I wanted some rifle I know you might get
I have bought 3 guns from ya
Someone who has bought 10
And some guy that say he will pay you extra ?

I would hope you would take care of the 10 guy first then the 3 guy then the new one ?
I prefer to work with folks I have before and keep my known customers happy and prefer to work with dealers who will also know I can be a good customer and its not just saving $10 or getting something rare

While I have a Storefront, I am appointment only. My "regular" LOCAL customers know that I always have "rare" items in stock and that they will commonly get them for BELOW MAP.

It pays to be local to me. :D

I might if I was looking for a rare, unobtanium gun that was no longer in production. Otherwise, no. I'm not a bottom dollar kind of guy, but I am a value for the money buyer. :)

I have paid a few extra dollars to a dealer for a hand select and received some nice used pieces but no gun new or used is worth over paying for just to jump a waiting list.

I would hope dealers would have some professional integrity and maintain the waiting list without bumping "The Bribes" to the front.

Never tried the bribe...just do things the other old-fashioned way, by being friendly and respectful. I do send business to my favorite FFL, buy from him even if he can't always beat the price, and I always gift him at Christmas...I suppose that could be a bribe?

Never really thought about it. I do most of my shopping at the local cop shop so I'm totally ok with letting some guy who needs it for duty get ahead of me in line. Even with today's availability I never take the last few boxes of ammo that they have on hand. Just don't seem right.

Times like these are yet another reason why it's a good idea to develop and maintain a loyal relationship with your dealers and vendors. When flows are slow and stock is limited, a good dealer will remember who was with them on a regular basis when times were good, and who was not.

And you needn't make large purchases to further that relationship. Having your dealer see you at the cash register for something each time you're in the store (see: "One Box Rule") is often enough. Find other ways to support your dealer/vendor as well, in ways that they will appreciate.

Well over retail?! They should be offering well over MSRP lol. Every firearm that's AWB eligible or a M&P Shield is in high demand.

Personally I'm not offering over MSRP for stuff. What I hate is that my local gun store has stuff in that I want, offered him MSRP cash, but rather sell for double MSRP on gunbroker.

Not knocking it, but just annoyed by it. Was a loyal customer till this. Probably just stick to online retailers.

Another thing ... Have a LGS selling Glock LE guns for $499? Was there an increase from Glock?

One of our local Plano(Dallas) stores is also a gun range. In order to buy an AR or Semi-Auto shotgun now you must be a member of the range ($175 per year). Slightly inflated prices on top of that.

The other guys are just price gouging for all get out. 4k for an AR. (Colt)

I have always found that letting my guy know I'm paying cash and not dicking around on the price is the quickest way to the top of the list.

My LGS always quotes me a great price. I always add in a few more $$ as a thank you. Even with what I add in it's still a good bit less than what he has marked on the tag. I refer all my friends to him and for the most part they end up buying from him also. I've been buying guns from him for at least 15 years now and he keeps his eye out for whatever I'm looking for.

The old saying " You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours", really does work.

Always a good idea. Telling your local dealer that you would like to pay $20 over their asking price also tends to get you bumped to the top of the list. ;)
