View Full Version : so who's got some fun little pet loads for TAC?
i've got some 55 grain FMJ's and some 75 grain hornady match BTHPs.
last time out i used 25.5 grains behind the 55's and 22.0 behind the 75's.
POI was about 1.5" low with the 75 grain bullets.
16" middy. 1 in 7 twist.
I just run 24.5 gr of TAC with my 55gr FMJs.
Works great in the carbine, Shorties, and Rifle.

I use 24 grains of TAC with a 55 grain fmj and get 3000 fps out of a 20" barrel.
They work beautifully in a 16" gun as well, but I didn't chrono them out of the short gun.

I sure don't. I was basing my load off of the data sheet for TAC. I tried Kurt Reifurt's 24 grains as a starting load, but I was getting slightly weak cycling in my guns. So I kicked it up a half a grain. I'm pretty happy with that load.

I have been looking into using TAC but have heard that it is dirty. For me, this is a big issue, so I typically use Vitavuori powders.

i've heard it's one of the cleaner ball powders, and that seems to be true.

i based mine on the sierra reloading manual's AR15 section. 24.7 is the min. they recommend.
i'm goin to chrono all these in a bit. i'll report back. :D
It seems to be cleaner than 748.
ok..
22.0 grains tac, 75 grain hornady- 2450 fps ave.
23.0 tac, 75 grain-2570 ave
25.5/55 grain- 2750 ave
26.0/55 -2900 fps
fairly consistent velocity was had with the tac.
my 1 in 7 twist lightweight cmmg really groups nice with those 75 grain bullets. seems like they'll drop like rocks though. they hit 2" lower than my hot 55 grain loads
military 63 grain ammo (lake city) chronos just a touch over 3000.
so .223 loads are pretty light for 5.56 guns i'm thinking....
that said, i primarily punch paper, so i'll probably stick with the 25.5/55 grain setup for most of my shooting. seems to group pretty nice and it's quite economical.
