View Full Version : Looking for a new glock....

I already have a Glock 17 and I am looking to pick up another. With that said I'm in a bit of a dilemma about whether to get a G19 or a G35. Right now 40 S&W is a bit easier for me to find. I would carry, shoot classes and shoot at the range with either pistol. I carried a full size 1911 for a good while so length and weight are a non factor. My question is, which would you choose and why?

Wouldn't you be looking at the 23? Its the same size as the g19

Well I thought about it, but I find the recoil of a 23 a bit snappy so I thought the 35 may tame a bit more of the recoil of that round. I like like the full size grip of the 35. Eventually I will get both, the 19 and 35. But for the immediate purchase with 40 being more available that's why I asked opinions.

I believe in consolidating calibers and having interchangeable mags so I would either get a 26, 19, or 34/17l

My favorite Glock is the 19. Its the perfect size CCH for me.

If you own the 17 and need a carry piece, i'd get the 26. the OEM +2 mags (total 10rd) bring the gun basically up to G19 size ( a little smaller) and they shoot very well. I carry mine often. Just bought 3 more mags for it... can't wait til get here!

Glock 19 very good, mag and ammo compatible. I have a 35 but it rarely leaves my night stand.

Go with the 19, you'll be happy you have magazine compatibility with the 17, and ammo found for one will be ammo found for the other. No small matter these days. Though a fine cartirdge, I just don't enjoy shooting .40s. Too snappy for me. 9mm or .45 in my IMHO

Sounds like a 22 would work good, not too small not too big ,just right:p

None of the above,,,,I'd get a g30s

That said, a 19 would compliment the 17 with a 26 even more so. A 34 would be a better choice for ammo/mag reasons ove the 35

Not to change subjects, but does anyone know where to actually find new gen 3 Glock 19's right now?

I've owned one for several years, but want another one.

Thanks, Giff

I don't like having a bunch of different calibers, so I'd go with the Glock 19 for reasons already mentioned.

A Glock 19 and Glock 34 is my ideal pair; for me it covers everything from CCW, to home defense, to competition. I have a hard time finding a place to slot in a 17 if I'm going to own more than just one Glock.

I'm all about owning multiple calibers if for nothing else, when in a situation we're in right now... you've doubled your chance at finding ammo in stock.

I'd stay with another 9mm variant.

Pick up another G17 or a 19, 26, etc.

The G35 is definitely a soft shooter. However i caution on expanding into other calibers. Just due to having different mags and another caliber to supply. If you already have a 45 i would sti k with the 9mm in a G34.

Get the G19. Mag and ammo compatabilty go a long way. I have a G19 and need a G17 since I have many G17 mags for my 19.

Another vote to stick with 9mm, and the G19 in particular. I have both several G19s and a G23, and, it's the Devil's own work to keep the magazines separated easily. With a G17 and a G35, you'd have the same issue - magazines that are visually very difficult to differentiate in a hurry. Trying to stick a .40 S&W into the G17's chamber won't be a lot of fun - and I've lost count of the number of times I've found "belled" 9mm cases that people have inadvertently chambered and fired through their .40 S&Ws...

Kevin

Agree with this answer completely. Hate adding new platforms and calibers - a PURPOSE for every weapon I own and lots of common mags.

I would get either a 19 or 26. Consolidate your calibers and spend any extra money on ammo, more ammo, and training.

If this is going to be a game/play gun then the G35 is OK but I prefer the G34 for that. I carry a Gen4 G23 both IWB & OWB as a duty weapon but recently purchased a Gen3 G19 as a trainer. The main problem is 9mm ammo is somewhat hard to find right now. The 40 S&W ammo seems to be a little easier to find but not in abundance.

For personal defense, CCW and the training I do, the compacts seem to be a better choice for me, G19/23. If carrying as a duty weapon on a gun belt I'd opt for the G17/22 instead.

How many mags do you have for the G17 right now? If your planning to purchase another G17 at a later date it'll come with additional magazines, 2 w/Gen3 and 3 w/Gen4. This would be my main concern/question, the number of & caliber of magazines I had vs. the caliber of guns I had/wanted.

At the end of the day either caliber will work and work well. The main focus should be on training, weapons care/maintenance and mind set. 9mm was the craze several years back for LE work but the 40 S&W seems to have taken over. There's always been the 1911/Sig/S&W crowd but Glocks do seem to be the main attraction now. Last I heard, Glock was 1,000,000,000 in the rear with back orders.

No matter the model/caliber, if you have your selection narrowed down to two or so, if you find one of them you better make the move or you might loose out.

Good luck to you, train hard, live smart.

Buying guns in additional calibers isn't the way to prepare for ammo shortages.

Buying additional ammo in calibers you already own is.

I would get a 26 or a 34, depends on what you want it for. But i love the 26 for CCW

I'd sell the 17 and get a 34/19 combo. I love my 19 and a 34 is my next purchase. Luckily I have lots of 9mm saved up.

Sell the G17, and get a Gen4 G19, and Gen4 G23.

Or keep the G17, and get a Gen4 G22.

Just be careful to keep your logistics in the not-retard phase.

I've just gotten a 1911 partially so that I can use .45ACP when it's hard to find 9x19mm.

I'm intentionally avoiding having to buy a .40 S&W. But I'm afraid that by next year, I'll have to have a Gen4 G23 in my stable. :|

Actually, having a gun that's a clone to your carry gun in another common caliber can kind of help. In '08, I had to borrow a friend's G22 for a little while because you couldn't find any 9x19mm around.

I'd say a 19 or a 26. Same caliber, interchangeable parts.

Give the G34 a look. You can always order 9mm ammo.

Just my $.02, YMMV, NYH1.

I always have to advocate for the 19/23/32 frame. It's extremely versatile. Duty, CCW, HD, it can cover all bases. I enjoy the 19 and 23 equally.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate all the input and advice. I wanted the 19 and still do, however I got a decent deal on a Gen4 G35. At least I can readily find ammo available for this pistol. Now the question is, who makes decent IWB holsters for these that don't have a long wait?!

I went through A LOT of different IWB holsters before finding perfection (to me anyway)....

I ahve owned Glocks in most all calibers....never got a GAP

Glocks are best in 9MM

And I have owned all the 9MM versions except the 17L and 18

But at the end of the day I have 26's and 17's

^^^This. G19 hands down. I got rid of all my .40 hand guns for the same reason plus I shoot 10mm. I saw no need to keep .40 since I just didn't shoot it all that much and the cost of ammo being so close to .45/10mm, it really didn't make sense for me to keep it.

Well once I can find a fair priced G19 I will jump on it. In the mean time I have this to tie me over. Easy to find ammo for right now as 40 is readily available to me and with the longer barrel recoil really isn't as sharp or snappy as I imagined it would be. Stock adjustable sights had to go as I'm pretty rough in classes and can be in idpa when time permits.

I really like this 35 so when I can afford it a G19 and a G34 are definitely on the short list!

Out of curiosity... why choose a .40 over 9mm?

OP - from what I understand, .40 S&W can be incredibly cheap to reload - especially if a certain projectile type is used. Might be worth considering / researching into.

Definitely considering reloading once I finish nursing school in a few weeks and free up some time.

I initially had an xdm 40 and sold it because I thought it was a little too snappy. This G35 has a completely different feel and recoil is more of a push than a snap. For me its easily controlled and if my xdm had been similar I would still own it.

In most cases I would have chosen 9mm for price of ammo and ease of shooting. However with scarcity of 9mm rounds in these parts I opted for another 40.

If what you are looking for is versatility then look at a G23 or G32. Depending on what flavor you choose, a barrel swap in either will net a 40cal or 357sig. Add G19 mags and barrel and you can have a 9mm. Three calibers in one very popular CCW gun.

Can't reply on the other models as I only have a g23 and its the only hand gun I ever shot. I love it. I hear people talking about the recoil and its no big deal. I am going to buy a 9mm barrel when 9mm comes back to stores and I do hear good things about the conversion barrels. And I would buy the 9mm barrel just to shoot more for cheaper when thats a factor for me.

I'm gonna echo the others and say go for the G19. Mostly because I don't like shooting the .40 and I'm too poor to feed it 45's all the time.
