View Full Version : IMI AR15 Magazines
Anyone have any experience with these? Apparently they are the latest polymer mags from IMI.

IDF used Orlite mags. Canada used Thermolds, they cut cost and utilized an inferior composition and experienced mags that melted when fired on sustained full auto hence the nick name "Thermelts". The US Thermolds did not suffer this however. Back in the day there were several SOF units that tested Master Molder Thermold mags in an artic environment. There is a SME on here who speaks highly the ones he tested.
As far as the mags in the OP, I don't think they've been out long enough for anyone to run them hard. At that price point they won't be fast movers provided PMAGs start becoming available again at pre panic prices.

Thank you for the clarification, I always got those two confused. I had 4 orlite mags back in the day that I got with a Robarms M96 and 2 of them cracked on the spine, and I never ran them hard. As for thermolds, my sig came with some (or atleast the looked the same) and those had weak springs.
Either way, for $25 it would be a waste of money with better and proven options out there.
In my opinion

Your Sig (I assume a 556) came with a Sig Sauer Polymer 30 round AR magazine, also marketed under the brand name i-TAC Defense. I have several of these and one of the polymer mag connectors in my reference collection.

I've got a bunch of Orlites that I bought from Sarco years back. I haven't put many rounds through them, but have had no issues, other than they don't fit my FNC.
Just wondering how the new ones compare.
I would pass on them. My cousin has a couple I was not impressed. PMAGS and USGI are usually the best, in my opinion. Of course, they are still hard to get right now.
Thanks much Moose. They apparently haven't been out long, and it's not like they are under $10.
With the way Magpul is conducting business I'll find it hard to give anyone else my money. I do like the Lancers though. ;)
The Orlite mags were a great bargain when they were a buck or two apeice, now...not so much. As long as you got mold #20 and later ones you really didn't have an issue. Earlier ones need filing on the dust rib to fit a lot of guns. Feed lips seemed to be the first thing to go. The new ones will suffer because of the price, but I doubt the quality is lacking.

I would pass. The IDF recently chose CAA to make their new standard issue mags....that should say it all.

Do a torture test of some sort and post the results. :p

Ill see what I can do
well no torture test yet, but my upper finally came in. about roughly 150 rounds through the imi's and about 120 rounds through my promags and i have to say i prefer the imi. the feel, springs, ease of loading etc everything about them feel better to me. my buddy also tried a few of my mags and compared them to his sig, pmag and troy mags and turned around a ordered a few imi's. some people dont like them, but for me i love them.
i just noticed they went on sale yesterday, i may order another 5 on friday.

Keep the info. coming. I'd like to hear both the good and the bad, but I think there aren't enough rounds through them yet for a decent evaluation. Time will tell if they will fit into the practice or duty use levels of use.

i have full intentions of another 300 rounds through them this weekend.
I got a couple IMI's after seeing reports of Pmag feeding problems with .300 Blackout. But any comparison is on hold until ATF deems me worth of an SBR. Mine dropped fine in a quick 6 gun test. Pic below shows different feedlip shape. (Couldn't resist the beautiful dinosaur background.)
