Hi all. Doing some reloading for my AR15 but need some help with charge weights. I have some 60 gr. Hornady SP, Vihtavuori N135. In the Hornady Handbook it lists the powder weights at 19.6 gr-22.7 gr. max load. On the Vihtavuori website data for the N135 Vihtavuori it is 23.1 gr.-25.8 max load for a 60 gr. HP.

Hornady Handbook - 19.6 - 22.7

Vihtavuori Website - 23.1 - 25.8

Most of the other powders I have used, H335, Varget, TAC, are all in the 23-27 gr. range. I always start low and work my way up. With the max load weight from Hornady being below the start load from Vihtavuori I am not sure where to start with that big of a difference.

Thanks for the help.

My Lee book is the only one of the four reloading manuals I own that has any information on N135 powder. With a 60 gr. bullet it's got a starting weight of 23.9 gr. and a never exceed limit of 25.9c (compressed load). Hope that helps

I never look at the powder company's recommendation first.

the first time you reload with a certain type of bullet, you should try to use the bullet manufacturers data. different bullets can create variations in pressure which can offset powder chart loads...

Thanks for the reply. I will start out on the low end.

Thanks for the info. There was just such a big difference in weights between the two. I have not used the N135 before. I prefer H335 but good luck finding any. I will start with the Hornady load data.
